The All Electric RUF Porsche 911

Monday, October 13, 2008 9:00AM - By Mike Payne

RUF, the makers of all things performence and Porsche, have focused their modding efforts on an all-electric Porsche 911.  They’ve succeeded, and the RUF Electric Porsche 911 has finally hit the pavement.  While it looks and feels like a combustion 911, this RUF mod isn’t dependent on foreign oil.  And with a brand so familiar to the world, it is likely giving Tesla Motors plenty to worry about.  The RUF Electric 911 will hit 60 from zero in under seven, with a top speed of 160mph.  You can charge this Porsche overnight, in about 10 hours, providing a range of 180 miles on that single charge.  In all, this is some pretty sweet news out of Germany’s favorite performance auto modder… [via autoblog]

The GT by Citroen: the Virtual Crossover

Thursday, October 2, 2008 10:36AM - By Mike Payne

If you’re one of the millions that owns a copy of Gran Turismo 5 for the PS3, you’re going to love this one…  In a surprise move by this French automaker, Citroen has revealed this virtual machine as a real world concept car today at the Paris Auto Show.  A joint venture with the makers of Gran Turismo, the GTbyCitroen is expected to hit 62mph from zero in just 3.6 seconds.  The GT achieves this from a hybrid combustion/fuel cell engine with a total of 752 horses.  We’re guessing the GTbyCitroen will never see the light of day as far as production, but with the release of this concept, we can at least hope and pray.  Feel free to drool on the photos below, we’ve been doing so all morning. What is one way of making the already spectacular Lotus Europa even more intriguing?  Throwing about $200,000 worth of diamonds is a start…  In celebrating their 60th anniversary, Lotus has built a special edition Lotus Europa Diamond for showing at their big birthday bash this Sunday in Hethel, Norfolk UK.  Encrusted into this Europa’s dashboard are an array of diamonds as supplied by Winsor Bishop, a leading diamond supplier of Eastern England.  If you just happen to be the Saudi oil baron who has everything, here’s another little gem on which you can spend the money you’re fleecing from us at the pump.

2009 Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG

Friday, September 12, 2008 9:00AM - By Joseph Penalver

Replacing the popular SL55 in the Mercedes Benz lineup is the 2009 SL63 AMG. While wearing the iconic Mercedes star, the SL63 continues to turn heads with it’s aggressive styling, then causing the ground to rumble with it’s 518 HP V8 hand-built engine from AMG. Delivering not only 518 HP from the V8, but also 465 lb-ft of torque, the AMG engine rockets you from 0-60 in only 4.5 seconds. Shifting is done through a silky smooth 7 speed transmission which Mercedes claims is unmatched in the speed and precision of it’s shifting. Not only is it equipped with a beast of an engine, but it also sports the usual Mercedes luxuries throughout the cabin. Oh yeah, a retractable folding hardtop is nice too….

The Artega GT

Monday, September 8, 2008 3:09PM - By Mike Payne

A few months back, we interviewed auto designer Henrik Fisker about his plug-in hybrid supercar, the Fisker Karma.  Continuing on in Mr. Fisker’s work on high end supercars, he was commissioned to design the Artega GT, the first car released by the new auto maker Artega.  Artega claims that it is not a boutique car maker, not a coachbuild modifier, not a custom builder, but a new production car builder with aims at mass production.  The Artega GT will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder engine or a 3.6L Volkswagen V6, pusing the GT to 62mph in under five seconds.  While we are usually critical of Mr. Fisker’s designs, the body of this one is pretty exceptional.  Hell, we wouldn’t turn one of these away! Arden AJ21: The Jaguar XF Revisioned

Friday, August 15, 2008 12:17PM - By Mike Payne

Arden AJ21 Front 1

Fans of the Jaguar SF may want to take note– custom German Automobile developer Arden has displayed its Arden AJ21 supercar, a customized, elite version of the Jaguar XF.  Like Mustang Saleens and Porsche Ruf CTRs, the Arden AJ21 pushes the limits of the original vehicle in both performance and luxury.  The 4.2L V8 of the XF has been bored out to 4.5L, providing 500 horsepower for a lot more get-up-and-go-and-don’t-look-back.  Custom interiors are available for the AJ21, just like any other Arden mod of Jaguar and Range Rover models.  While price details are still a little foggy, its obvious this vehicle will be the envy of Jaguar drivers all over the world.  It has us green with envy, that’s for sure…  [thanks autoblog]
