Thursday, September 11, 2008 2:37PM - By Mike Payne

Continuing on GearCrave’s exploration of all things Prefab, we wanted to share another modern prefab home that we’ve been excited about.  Louisiana-based prefab developer Jeriko designs and manufactures a self-branded line of homes, the Jeriko House Prefabs.  With a focus on modern design, sustainability and customization, the Jeriko homes are a sight to behold, inside and out.  Shown above and below is the Jeriko Jude house, a 3 bedroom home with high ceilings, top quality amenities and green-conscious functionality.  Check out the images below and visit JerikoHouse.com for more…

Best of Modern Prefab: Radziner Hidden Valley Home

marmol radziner hidden valley prefab

While we’d have a very difficult time choosing our favorite prefab, we’re easily enamored with this installation.  The Marmol Radziner Hidden Valley Prefab is a custom prefab with 2500 s.f. of interior space and over 1700 s.f. of decks.  The home is seperated into two seperate buildings unified with a common roof, made up of 15 factory-built modules.  The rocky southwestern views are unreal, and the stone floor of the lot is a stunning, natural base for this rectangular steel structure.  Marmol Radziner model prefabs start at $179,000, although the price on this custom prefab has not been published…

The Best of Modern Prefab: Santa Monica’s LivingHome

livinghome

For those of you who are aware of the modern prefab home movement, bear with us while we catch the rest up to speed. Imagine that your next home were to be manufactured in sections in a warehouse, delivered to your property, then pieced together and finalized into the perfect modern home. This technique has been around for decades, as “manufactured homes” and trailers have been delivered at a low cost to home owners. But what works for retirees in Florida and trailer communities across the country also works for the modernist movement. Some of the worlds brightest architects have turned to prefabricated construction techniques to lower costs and increase quality. The perfect example is Santa Monica’s LivingHome, as designed by architects Ray Kappe and Kieran Timberlake. Continue reading, GearCravers, for more about how the prefab movement has come alive in this LivingHome.

The Eco-Shed of Bowen Island, B.C.

ecoshed

Long before we pimped the Kithaus K3 to our friends here at GearCrave, we’ve had a serious obsession with shed offices, guest houses and prefab homes.  As a work from home blog editor, I can’t tell you how excited I get about a shed office of my very own, a man room where I can think and play in peace.  Bowen Island, B.C. resident James Glave knows this feeling all to well, which inspired him to create the Eco Shed, a guest home that he makes available to vacationers on his visually breathtaking island.  If we had a shed like this in our back yard, with a queen sized bed, a kitchenette, a wood stove and a three-quarter bath (and most importantly, a wi-fi connection), there would be no way in hell we’d rent it out to strangers.  But hey, James Glave is a much more generous guy than we are…  (thanks to GearCrave reader Matt for inspiring us about shed offices again)

Kithaus 3 Prefab Dwelling

kithaus-3.jpg

Prefab used to mean . . . just plain nasty. No longer. Kithaus makes fully insulated and wired pre-fabricated spaces that can go damn near anywhere you need them to go. Want to set up an instant artist’s studio, yoga room, or guest area? This is perfect for all the above. This structure is 9×13, requires no heavy equipment, and assmebles quickly. Wet bar and guests not included. Check out a great photo of an additional Kithaus option after the jump. VERY nice indeed. Who knew prefab could look so good?

Buy for $29,500 (base model)
