GearCrave Interview: The Redwalls on Gear, Gadgets, and Huey Lewis

February 27th, 2008 · No Comments

Chicago’s The Redwalls are described by some as the Fab Four in a head-on collision with 60s Garage. Think John, George, Paul, and Ringo in a dogpile with the 13th Floor Elevators and you might come somewhere near what The Redwalls are doing on their self-titled CD. Any band brave enough to list Fats Domino AND Nine Inch Nails as influences in the same laundry list has got something going for it. GearCrave’s Joe Wallace got some quick-n-dirty interview time with The Redwalls drummer Rob Jensen. Wallace points out that the interview was a bit tight-lipped and offers a few snarky asides to liven up the proceedings…

Julian Cope . . . Liam Gallagher . . . the list of names of UK music names with a large collection of scandal, rumor, and public disintegration is practically endless. You can add the ex-Libertines and BabyShambles member Pete Doherty to the (dis) honor roll for charges of robbery, knife-wielding, blackmail, dating Kate Moss, and worst of all, being a conservative. Whatever you think of him as a performer or humanoid you have to admit that his putting up with photographer Heidi Slimane documenting his life for two solid years isn’t the sort of thing most of us could handle. Now all that picture-taking is available in Slimane’s book London Birth of a Cult, available at a mind-shattering price.

Are you an audiophile with a nice collection of vinyl records? Are you buying new releases on vinyl? Who even puts records OUT on vinyl now?

Radiohead, for a start–including the new one, In Rainbows. And there are plenty of other acts out there still dedicated to the old medium. Vinyl, unlike CDs, is NOT dead. What you see here is the most advanced vinyl playback method in the entire universe. The ELP Laser Turntable functions much like a CD player, except this baby reads your records.

It plays 7-inch singles, 33-RPM singles, full-length albums, you name it. No needle ever touches your grooves. ELP claims you can get accurate playback from a broken or smashed record with no glue required! Just put all the pieces in the tray and let the lasers to the rest. Amazing. And so is that price…

Buy starting at $9,900.
