Olion Lamps by Sarah Finn

January 21st, 2008 · No Comments

finn-lamp1.jpg

The Olion lamp by Sarah Finn looks like an ordinary wood veneer lamp until you turn it on to reveal the unique, almost circuit-board type designs as seen above. A fascinating blend of organic and mechanical aesthetics that is versatile enough to work in an ultra-modern space or a more traditional one as long as the red doesn’t clash with your color scheme.

The TwistTogether Lamp is a fascinating concept. This is modular lighting designed to let you assemble as many individual light sections as you desire, in any configuration permitted by the laws of physics. You can assemble these lamps on a single power supply. A single set comes with four light blocks, but you can mix and match endlessly. The two color schemes shown above are “Chocolate” and “Candy”. Lighting up a room was never this tasty.

Marcel Duchamp Bicycle Wheel Wall Banner

January 10th, 2008 · No Comments

dada-wall.jpg

Marcel Duchamp was the artist who made art history by turning a toilet upside down and putting it on display as an art piece titled Fountain. One of art history’s inveterate pranksters AND a serious artist at the same time, Duchamp is legendary. Now BetterWall.com immortalizes Duchamp and the Dada art movement with these limited edition vinyl wall hangings. Others in the series include the sold-out Andy Warhol and Ansel Adams, but this Duchamp hanging is one of the most visually striking of the lot. As you can see, it looks great in any living room or home office with modern decor.

Just A Moment Clock by Reddish Studio

January 1st, 2008 · No Comments

fluke-clock.jpg

The Just A Moment by Reddish Studio clock takes the typical wall clock idea apart–literally. The hours, minutes, and seconds are all divided into their own timekeeping sections, drawing attention to itself with the symmetry of the hands and the continual motion of that red second hand. This isn’t just a clock, it’s a mechanical work of art great for spicing up an otherwise dull or under-appreciated section of wall space. This one comes by way of Fluke Collective, a very nice addition to your home office space or library nook.

Designer Joey Roth has cut out the middleman on his amazing Sorapot, selling them himself in a limited run of 300. This teapot is getting raves on the web, including cries of “sexiest teapot ever!” Roth asks for a $50 deposit; once it is ready to ship you pay the remainder and an ultra-modern update on the stodgy old teapot will be on your doorstep in no time. This looks pretty tasty, and if that picture doesn’t grab you, check out Joey Roth’s site for a video of the Sorapot in action. Call it Teatime 2.0, courtesy of Joey Roth.

Artelinea Bathroom Mirror/TV Combo

December 14th, 2007 · No Comments

artelinea-mirror.jpg

Italian designers think of EVERYTHING. This bathroom mirror/tv combo from Artelinea is made for those who are stylish, but too busy to actually sit down in front of the tube. Have you ever wondered what the roads were like as you were shaving? The weather? Who won the late game? Wonder no more, just keep your eye on the screen to check for morning commute problems, breaking news, and the recap from last night’s sports. No word on prices, though–apparently Artelinea wants you to get hooked on the concept first, THEN have a go at the sticker shock. Those crafty Italians…

Eva Zeisel Coffee Table

December 11th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Eva Zeisel Coffee Table

Where much of the modernist design movement can be a little too cold and minimal for your happy home, there are plenty of stunning modern gems to liven up your habitat. The Eva Zeisel coffee table is just one of these. Its psuedo-Victorian floral frame and simple glass top give the Zeisel coffee table a contrast of character that will balance out your living room. Perhaps even more stunning than Eva Zeisel’s coffee table is her personal history. Zeisel, now 101 years old, was once the artistic director of the Soviet ceramics industry in 1935. In ‘36, Zeisel spent 16 months in a Soviet prison after being accused of participating in an assassination attempt on Josef Stalin. 12 of those 16 months were spent in solitary confinement… Fortunately for Zeisel and her magnificent works of furniture that were to come, Zeisel later emigrated to the U.S. via Austria. Want to own an historic conversation piece of furniture in your home? You’re looking at it.

The Bulletproof Table

November 16th, 2007 · No Comments

bulletable-top1.jpg

Aviad Gil designed this incredible, insane, and apparently indestructible table from the bulletproof windscreen of a Volvo, iron, epoxy, and a few blasts from a nasty AK-47 rifle. It’s definitely a statement, and it looks almost safe enough to eat off of. We’d rather use this as a man room drinking game centerpiece or maybe as a work table to build robots on. We’re guessing Gil was listening to some choice cuts off a Neubauten album or maybe some John Zorn & Naked City when designing this bad boy.

Play Plasma Entertainment Center by Cattelan Italia

November 14th, 2007 · No Comments

spacify1.jpg

Cattelan Italia’s Play Plasma TV/entertainment center is a thing to behold. Glass and stainless steel look great together, don’t they? You’d never guess this is on wheels, but it’s designed to be portable should you get the urge to redecorate, rearrange, reassemble. This unit can halde a 42-inch plasma or LCD and supports 77 pounds total. As you can see from the image, it’s ultra-mod paired up with leather furniture. Get yourself a large section of nice, soft white shag carpet and the picture is complete.
