Light Emitting Wallpaper

April 25th, 2008 · No Comments

light emitting wallpaper

Hopefully sooner than later, light emitting wallpaper is coming to a home near you. Designer Jonas Samson has developed this new technology for lighting two dimensional planes as opposed to a standard 3D light bulb. Just like a light, this wallpaper can be switched on and off. When in the off position, this glowing magic looks just like normal wallpaper. Unfortunately, Jonas’ concept is just that– a concept, and is yet to be produced for public consumption. We’ll keep you posted on that as soon as news arises. [apartmenttherapy]

GRO Design and Tim modelmakers have come together to combine two of our passions here at GearCrave– modern design and foosball. Who knew those two would make such a perfect marriage? The combined design firms have become “11″, and their latest project is TheBeautifulGame, quite possibly the most luxurious foosball table ever designed. The Beautiful Game table will be first shown at Milan Design week, opening today. It is not yet for sale, as only one model of the table exists. Its fully playable, so if you’re in Milan over the weekend– we recommend giving this one a shot.

Modern Chair Eye Exam Poster

April 14th, 2008 · 1 Comment

chair eye exam

Cover your left eye and look at the chart, please.  How well do you know your modern furniture design?  I see a Harry Bertoia, Charles and Ray Eames, Lee West and more.  If you’ve got 20-20 design vision, this awesome poster by BlueAntStudio should be the perfect visual litmus.  Get it on a wall in your home for $50, and keep the eyes of your guests in check.  Here’s a good game: if they can name every chair on their first try, you buy them the same poster for their own… [notcot]

TreeTell-The Organic Media Center

April 1st, 2008 · No Comments

treetell

We’re approaching 2001: A Space Odessy territory here. The ultra-trippy design of TreeTell combines the warm, organic look of a tree with the high-tech gear stashed in the hole–a message center with audio and video plus Internet access. It’s the sort of thing future scientists might install in long-haul spacecraft to keep people feeling connected to nature…or a product coming soon to a living room near you. We’re hoping this sort of thing catches on, but perhaps with some additional seating for those of us who like lumbar support. [YankoDesign]

Spider Table

Stanisalv Katz is behind this great office furniture rethink. The Spider Table is everything you need in a hip, happening office setup. Black and white usually gets tiled by less innovative brains, but this yin/yang approach is novel without resorting to cliche Eastern touches. Coming soon to an ultra-mod office space near you. Orgy Sofa and Ottoman

March 18th, 2008 · No Comments

The Orgy Sofa and Ottoman are worthy of inclusion here if for no other reason than the name alone, but we’re still trying to figure out the geometery of trying to make this live up to its name. How the hell are you supposed to make all those people fit on this thing comfortably? Perhaps its best not to take the name THAT literally. Maybe the couch is named after that goofy band that covered New Order’s Blue Monday all those years ago . . . design-wise, this is pretty eye-catching and the ottoman fitting nicely together into the main shape is a great touch.

Scan Design’s Titan Desk

March 18th, 2008 · No Comments

Titan Desk

Scandinavian Design is a cornerstone in modern furniture design– and this next piece will show you exactly how they’ve remained on top of their industry. This desk obviously features a simple yet modern design. It comes as shown in a black stained ash veneer with a chrome leg. First, we love the single leg design– it makes for more legroom and a more ergonomic workspace. Beyond the standard frame are a few accessories which make this desk an ideal work space. The picture above shows one, the Titan File Pedestal. Not pictured is the Titan Lateral File, a bookcase available in a 3- and 5- shelf unit. Bundle the three together and you’ve got one hell of a home office.
