Green Condos : Elleven South (Los Angeles, CA)

Friday, May 23, 2008 8:00AM - By SiRobins

The Background

Downtown Los Angeles has had a hipster revival in recent years, much like Williamsburg. The reason? A vast array of abandoned warehouse space that crafty developers have remodeled into state-of-the-art condos. And in LA’s smog-infested landscape, green is best. Welcome to Elleven South, a 13-story glass monolith that sharply contrasts the standard renovations going on downtown. Why “South,” you ask? Elleven is just the first of many residential spots of its kind going up in the neighborhood once known as South Park. Its new designation will simply be “South.” It’s downtown’s newest swanky address.

Monday, May 19, 2008 7:01AM - By Mike Payne

Green Condos

This week at GearCrave, we’ll be focusing on a growing trend in condo real estate, the “green condo” market. As the housing market continues to get more competitive, developers are catering to the informed, eco-conscious home buyer by increasing green standards in home building and amenity technology. This means green roofs, the harnessing of the sun’s heat and the cooling effect of local breezes, plus eco-conscious building materials that increase efficiency and reduce waste. Later today, we’ll be running an introduction to the Green Condo trend. Throughout the week, we’ll feature one green condo complex per day in 5 of the major cities across the US. Stay tuned, GearCravers, and learn how you can go green with this bold new trend in home design.
