When the going gets tough, the tough get a martini bar. Copenhagen Contemporary Furniture’s martini bar is sleek and foxy, but unlike that stranger in the club, it will always welcome you in. Chrome, glass and powder-coated steel create the funky façade, and it’s just the right size to park in the corner of any room in the house (or the apartment, or dorm room or on the patio, poolside). Keep it fully stocked and invite friends over often — even though there’s room for two in the front, this thing will draw a crowd.

Scandinavian Design is a cornerstone in modern furniture design– and this next piece will show you exactly how they’ve remained on top of their industry. This desk obviously features a simple yet modern design. It comes as shown in a black stained ash veneer with a chrome leg. First, we love the single leg design– it makes for more legroom and a more ergonomic workspace. Beyond the standard frame are a few accessories which make this desk an ideal work space. The picture above shows one, the Titan File Pedestal. Not pictured is the Titan Lateral File, a bookcase available in a 3- and 5- shelf unit. Bundle the three together and you’ve got one hell of a home office.

Phillip Grass takes a unique approach to tried-and-true furniture designs. The one pictured above is called the Landing, and is constructed from bent stainless steel, fiberglass and leather. This design is a prototype, but Glass has fully realized projects that are just as fascinating to look at. Phillip Glass does offer a nod to the classic looks of yesteryear with a traditional-looking old-style wooden chair, but that one seems to be the joker in this particular deck. When the Landing hits market, there are plenty of modern design fanatics chomping at the bit to get prices and delivery dates.

Aramith has taken the phrase “pool table” to its logical extreme with these great dual-use dining room centerpieces. Fusion tables have a sturdy top you can serve a six-course meal on, plus dessert and coffee. Then you can clear the dishes, pull off the top, and relax into a nice round of 8-ball. The way these are built, there’s no chance of food or drink getting down to the playing surface, and these tables come in a variety of woods; finishes include walnut, cherry, and oak. You can even order a metal version!

The headline does not lie; this chair is completely covered in 24-karat gold. Designer Fredrick Mattson is said to have craved a more environmentally-friendly design in chairs, and this notion seems to make sense. If you have a chair covered in gold, who cares what the wood beneath looks like! You can use any old blemished piece of crap, and as long as it holds together, you’ve got yourself a genuinely green piece of opulence.

Where much of the modernist design movement can be a little too cold and minimal for your happy home, there are plenty of stunning modern gems to liven up your habitat. The Eva Zeisel coffee table is just one of these. Its psuedo-Victorian floral frame and simple glass top give the Zeisel coffee table a contrast of character that will balance out your living room. Perhaps even more stunning than Eva Zeisel’s coffee table is her personal history. Zeisel, now 101 years old, was once the artistic director of the Soviet ceramics industry in 1935. In ‘36, Zeisel spent 16 months in a Soviet prison after being accused of participating in an assassination attempt on Josef Stalin. 12 of those 16 months were spent in solitary confinement… Fortunately for Zeisel and her magnificent works of furniture that were to come, Zeisel later emigrated to the U.S. via Austria. Want to own an historic conversation piece of furniture in your home? You’re looking at it.

In 1926, Marcel Breuer designed the first bent-chrome chair the world had seen– the Wassily chair. This bent metal and thick leather masterpiece was admired by Breuer’s Bauhaus colleague, painter Wassily Kandinsky. After Breuer delivered a few of these for Kandinsky himself, the chair became popularly known as the Wassily chair. Looking at this chair, it may be hard to believe that this design was created in the 1920s. Its ultra-modern appeal has held strong to this day, gracing museum floors and high end bachelor pads alike. Your humble GearCrave editor has two of these in his living room. I still cannot walk past these chairs without taking a moment to stop and admire them… Neither can my guests!

This Blade Runner-esque side table by Skram is made from solid white ash, ebonized with a sandblasted aluminum stretcher ring and a sturdy, half-inch plate glass top. This is really great as a design piece with a minimalist bamboo planter or Ikebana arrangement, but it’s also quite functional as a place to store your replicant testing machine. (Couldn’t resist another Blade Runner reference). Gorgeous.

This leather coffee table by Pfeifer is hand made, with each piece of leather tanned, cut, and stitched individually. The table is built on a recessed base that lets it float an inch and a half off the floor. It’s an amazing piece of work; 36 inches wide & long, 17 inches high, and there is a small optional companion table you can order to make a set. Sorry, Buddha not included.
