IVY External Hard Disk

Monday, December 31, 2007 7:02AM - By J. Wallace

ivy.jpg

The IVY external hard disk is built as part of the De Groene Banaan (Green Banana) Concept; when you buy a bunch of green bananas, you can tell when they are ready to eat just by looking at them. This external hard drive is built on the same idea; see how full your drive is just by glancing at the graphical representation of your data via the OLED screen on the case. Pretty sweet, eh? What’s frustrating about this tantalizing gadget? There’s no information at the designer’s website as to when this will hit the market or how much it will cost. Come on, Green Banana people..fess up.

Artelinea Bathroom Mirror/TV Combo

Italian designers think of EVERYTHING. This bathroom mirror/tv combo from Artelinea is made for those who are stylish, but too busy to actually sit down in front of the tube. Have you ever wondered what the roads were like as you were shaving? The weather? Who won the late game? Wonder no more, just keep your eye on the screen to check for morning commute problems, breaking news, and the recap from last night’s sports. No word on prices, though–apparently Artelinea wants you to get hooked on the concept first, THEN have a go at the sticker shock. Those crafty Italians…

Book Collection Clock

A single AA battery powers this ingenious off-the-wall clock design. Stash it in your bookshelf for a subtle look, or stick it between two bookends to draw more attention to the design. Either way, this is a book-lover’s gift all day, and if you aren’t ordering this for your librarian auntie or bookworm sister right this minute, we’re guessing it’s because she already has one.

Hulger P*Phone and USB Base

The Hulger P*Phone and USB Base are a direct visual throwback to the earliest days of Bond. Actually, this is probably the phone his arch-nemesis Bloefeld would have used to order the laser attacks on Her Majesty’s Royal Whatever. The P*Phone plugs into your Mac or PC and works with all VoIP providers including Skype, Google Talk, iChat, etc. It’s plug-n-play, and is said to cut your radiation exposure from cell phone use by a whopping 90% or better. Wow. No brain tumors, a great retro look, and no software install. Sounds like a winner! Bloefeld would definitely approve of the P*Phone, but the white kitty and evil fortress of solitude not included.

The Bulletproof Table

Friday, November 16, 2007 10:35AM - By J. Wallace

bulletable-top1.jpg

Aviad Gil designed this incredible, insane, and apparently indestructible table from the bulletproof windscreen of a Volvo, iron, epoxy, and a few blasts from a nasty AK-47 rifle. It’s definitely a statement, and it looks almost safe enough to eat off of. We’d rather use this as a man room drinking game centerpiece or maybe as a work table to build robots on. We’re guessing Gil was listening to some choice cuts off a Neubauten album or maybe some John Zorn & Naked City when designing this bad boy.

Cattelan Italia’s Play Plasma TV/entertainment center is a thing to behold. Glass and stainless steel look great together, don’t they? You’d never guess this is on wheels, but it’s designed to be portable should you get the urge to redecorate, rearrange, reassemble. This unit can halde a 42-inch plasma or LCD and supports 77 pounds total. As you can see from the image, it’s ultra-mod paired up with leather furniture. Get yourself a large section of nice, soft white shag carpet and the picture is complete.
