Thursday, February 14, 2008 10:23AM - By J. Wallace

In this rotten economy of ours, you need to save up all the spare change you can get and never mind that so-called economic stimulus package that is headed our way. Sock some cash away from a rainy day with this wall-mounted bank, and pick your cash-out moment wisely. You’ll really have to break the glass to get at the silver, so make sure you’re well and truly desperate before you put the hammer down. The way things are going at the moment, you could have more money in this bank than you’ve got in your mutual funds by the time George W. leaves office.

Olion Lamps by Sarah Finn

Monday, January 21, 2008 7:00AM - By J. Wallace

finn-lamp1.jpg

The Olion lamp by Sarah Finn looks like an ordinary wood veneer lamp until you turn it on to reveal the unique, almost circuit-board type designs as seen above. A fascinating blend of organic and mechanical aesthetics that is versatile enough to work in an ultra-modern space or a more traditional one as long as the red doesn’t clash with your color scheme.

paristic monmarte sticker2

Ahh, France…for those who have been there it’s a magical place and never you mind those haughty Parisian attitudes. French designers Paristic have come up with some clever vinyl wall art that can spice up any home office, TV room or minimalist den. Just stick them right onto the wall, and you’ve got an instant taste of Monmartre (pictured above) or perhaps a simple French window design, carefully placed. There are plenty of themes and designs to choose from, and you can go for large, medium (shown above) or small and in a variety of colors, too!

Buy for approx $130 (for Monmartre–prices vary according to size)

Sustainable energy has finally gone “emergency” with the Weza portable energy source. This $299 gadget can be charged from an ordinary power supply, but it can also deliver 25-40 watts via the foot pump. The Weza can jump-start a car or boat battery, and the handy input gauge lets you see how much effort you need to add before you can get your vehicle up and running again. No more tow truck assistance needed for those dead batteries, just whip this baby out of your trunk and start pumping.

The TwistTogether Lamp is a fascinating concept. You can assemble these lamps on a single power supply. A single set comes with four light blocks, but you can mix and match endlessly. The two color schemes shown above are “Chocolate” and “Candy”. IVY External Hard Disk

Monday, December 31, 2007 7:02AM - By J. Wallace

ivy.jpg

The IVY external hard disk is built as part of the De Groene Banaan (Green Banana) Concept; when you buy a bunch of green bananas, you can tell when they are ready to eat just by looking at them. This external hard drive is built on the same idea; see how full your drive is just by glancing at the graphical representation of your data via the OLED screen on the case. Pretty sweet, eh? What’s frustrating about this tantalizing gadget? There’s no information at the designer’s website as to when this will hit the market or how much it will cost. Come on, Green Banana people..fess up.

Italian designers think of EVERYTHING. This bathroom mirror/tv combo from Artelinea is made for those who are stylish, but too busy to actually sit down in front of the tube. Have you ever wondered what the roads were like as you were shaving? The weather? Who won the late game? Wonder no more, just keep your eye on the screen to check for morning commute problems, breaking news, and the recap from last night’s sports. No word on prices, though–apparently Artelinea wants you to get hooked on the concept first, THEN have a go at the sticker shock. Those crafty Italians…
