There’s no way of representing this home without giving up all of the GearCrave home page. This home is tall. You’re looking at the most expensive home in human history, split into two parts of what is one tall tower. This ultramansion will be the home of Mukesh Ambani, the fifth wealthiest man in the world. Ambani’s sky scraping home will be built in Mumbai, India, his current home city. Where did Ambani get the kind of money to finance such an incredible habitat? We’ll let you know the next time you’re filling your gas tank. Politics aside, this brilliant design is scheduled to start building soon, and will be host to Ambani’s family and many international guests. Hirsch Bender and Associates have developed this design, the style of which has become quite common in recent architecture trends. Hell, if we had the money, would we have done anything less?

MF Doom once referred to himself as a “keen drum machine buff who fiends for more green stuff”. Too Chez, Mr. Dumile, your humble GearCrave editor could be described as the same. Doom and other hip hop greats like Kanye West, DJ Premier, Just Blaze and Hi Tek owe a lot of their sound to that drum machine above, the MPC 2000 and its family. The MPC, or MIDI Production Center, could be considered the heart of hip hop. It took the torch from the classic SP1200 sampler as the beatmaker of choice of hip hop’s greatest producers. If you’ve heard a hip hop beat in the last 20 years, chances are it was made with this machine…
Designer Bill McMullen has immortalized the MPC in rings of sterling silver (above) and gold. This run of silver is sold out, but the gold-plated era edition remains in stock. For those who wish to rock their street cred on their fingers, get this MPC drum machine ring while its hot… [hipyoungthing]

In the last decade, the trend in the wristwatch world has been growing bigger, bolder, and more involved. While much of this is right up our alley here at GearCrave, Diesel’s new DZ7091 wristwatch is a timely departure from what is becoming standard. The DZ7091 features a gorgeous, slender metallic timepiece with a silver leather band. The digital LED display shown above appears on a naked mirror faceplate when evoked by the push of a button. We salute Diesel for this fresh new design, a reflective take on minimal futurism.
There’s more to come, GearCravers. The DZ7091 was one of our favorites from Diesel’s new Basel 2008 collection… which we’ll be sharing with you over the next week. Check back for more previews of Diesel’s vivid new timepieces.

Founded in 1995 by the firm’s namesake Artemy Lebedev, Russia’s Art. Lebedev Studio’s credo is: “Design will save the world.” Perhaps, with their latest creation, they plan to amend that motto to: “Design will protect the world from robbers.” The Defendius Door Chain is the latest toy from the Lebedev studio, who’s cheeky approach to industrial design is probably more famous for its fascination with tactile electronics than with home security. Having produced from hyper-geometric kettles to custom fonts, there most reputable design is the surreally innovative Optimus Maximus keyboard– the first type pad with a fully customizable display for each key– a multilingual, shortcut-happy playscape for the fingers.
The Defendius is decidedly less versatile, but it’s a great example of the maverick design firm’s playful but practical wit. Made from 100% Titanium Alloy Construction, it’s been tested to withstand up to 700 lbs. of force. The irony that it could conceivably take you longer to get out of your apartment than it’d take for an intruder to get in, is a wicked design joke well worth the $50 price tag.

Bent less on world domination, as the name might suggest, and more on the reinterpretation of fashion accessories, ARMREVOLUTION focuses mainly on re-imagining the standard cufflink. Creating what they call “arm architecture,” ARMREVOLUTION defines their project as a movement, drawing from elements of architectural design to challenge conventional notions of luxury and accessories. It’s an approach that, while perhaps a bit theatrical (peep the website’s high production intro video), has produced some inarguably cool cufflinks.
The flagship line is the Perpetual Series: six designs, each cut from super smooth Japanese steel, each with a unique closure system. The innovation is unmistakeable (all of the designs have patents pending), and the look is pretty killer too. Clean, understated, utilitarian– it’s industrial design for your shirt cuffs. Originally available by appointment only in NY and London, the company launched an e-commerce site back in December. As expected, cufflinks this innovative carry a fairly hefty price tag. These’ll run you between $695 and $750. But, what’s a revolution without a little sacrifice?

Designer Nieke Sybrandy has come up with a great concept with her ASCII curtains. Many of today’s blog kiddies and Nintendo Wii-heads are too young to remember the great old computer BBS systems of the late 80s and early 90s, with their crude-but-endearing ASCII graphics and ancient green and amber color schemes. These curtains are a direct throwback to those days of yore, but in a much more sophisticated way. Stylish, organic-looking, but realized with the creative arrangement of old fuddy-duddy computer code. Amazing. [JoshSpear]

Scandinavian Design is a cornerstone in modern furniture design– and this next piece will show you exactly how they’ve remained on top of their industry. This desk obviously features a simple yet modern design. It comes as shown in a black stained ash veneer with a chrome leg. First, we love the single leg design– it makes for more legroom and a more ergonomic workspace. Beyond the standard frame are a few accessories which make this desk an ideal work space. The picture above shows one, the Titan File Pedestal. Not pictured is the Titan Lateral File, a bookcase available in a 3- and 5- shelf unit. Bundle the three together and you’ve got one hell of a home office.

Phillip Grass takes a unique approach to tried-and-true furniture designs. The one pictured above is called the Landing, and is constructed from bent stainless steel, fiberglass and leather. This design is a prototype, but Glass has fully realized projects that are just as fascinating to look at. Phillip Glass does offer a nod to the classic looks of yesteryear with a traditional-looking old-style wooden chair, but that one seems to be the joker in this particular deck. When the Landing hits market, there are plenty of modern design fanatics chomping at the bit to get prices and delivery dates.
Contact Phillip Grass for additional details.
