Oakley FrogskinsĀ® Collector’s Edition
At the tail-end of ‘07, Oakley decided to dig into the archives and bring an old classic back from the Reagan era. Unlike most things associated with Ronnie’s tenure, the Frogskins Collector’s Editions are undoubtedly the freshest shades on the planet right now and a great reminder of Oakley’s iconic status in American sport-style. The original Oakley Frogskin debuted in 1985, came in over 50 colors, and was a super-duper hit. Only 3,000 pairs of each original color combination will be released. This year, a new color will be released every month. This month’s color is my absolute favorite. It’s Fluro yellow with ‘Fire’ lenses. I’m legitimately afraid to touch them. The shape and style is really unbelievable. It’s like a classic Wayfarer silhouette that went to Extreme Sports Camp. They’re sporty enough to stay on your face but stylish enough to walk around in without looking like your always ready to go kayaking.
And the colors!! Nine have been issued so far, including the yellow; my other personal favorites are the so obvious-it’s-brilliant Clear/Violet Iridium and the why-didn’t-Kanye-wear-these? Glow-in-the-Dark/Bronze. These things are going so fast it’s scary. Oakley’s online store is already sold out of the current colors, but there are a few other places to find them (see below). Once they’re gone, they’re gone, so do some hunting and keep your eyes peeled for next month’s color. (more pics after the jump!)
