As is usual, I think the answer isn’t as clear-cut as ‘yes’ or ‘no’. What exactly makes something a ‘mainstream technology’? I would argue that ‘ultra mobile PCs’ aren’t significantly different enough from other already-’mainstream’ products to require a phase of integration. They seem more like a sub-category (like compact desktop PCs) that have certain advantages and disadvantages, just like their larger brethren.

I think its yes! I hate PDAs, but don’t want to spend the big bucks for a full-blown high-end laptop. Give me a tool that is big enough to be useful, affordable enough to make sense, and simple enough that I can use it.
