Big News, Part Three: StyleCrave.com

Monday, October 6, 2008 1:19PM - By Mike Payne

You’ve likely noticed a change in GearCrave in the last week or two.  You’ve noticed a lot more gadgets and a bit less cars, clothing, design items and otherwise.  We thought it was about time to explain this to you– and to let you know that the only thing that has changed is a lot more of all the stuff you love.  If you are passionately addicted to all things gadgets and tech, you’re already home.  From this point on, GearCrave is to be a pure gadget destination, covering the latest, the greatest and the breaking news in the gadget world.  GearCrave will feel familiar to you, we’ll maintain the same aspirational, high design approach to gadget coverage.

So, then, what is StyleCrave?

StyleCrave is a guide to living the best lifestyle a man can have.  StyleCrave will cover the latest in cars, clothing, design, travel and more– all mixed in with great advice, interviews, how-to’s and more.  That coverage you used to love on GearCrave is now StyleCrave.com.  Why split it up?  We can cover a lot more of that great stuff with a new, tighter focus.  In short, gadget fans get more of what they love on GearCrave.com, and men who want to see the best stuff in life will head to StyleCrave.com.

Separate, but Centralized

See the menu bar at the top of the site?  When you want your gadgets, you can click on that bar from any of the sites in the new Crave network.  When you want your lifestyle gear, hit “style”.  With that, the only change you’ll really see is a lot more of the stuff you love, in separate but centralized places.  Enjoy, GearCravers, StyleCravers, BeatCravers and ScreenCravers.  Welcome to a big network full of the coolest stuff on the planet.

Start by checking out StyleCrave.com!  And don’t forget to tell your friends…

So what’s going on with the emails? Will I be getting four different emails from the four different sites?

Good question Aaron– you’ll only be receiving emails from websites that you want to. If you don’t want an email from BeatCrave, you won’t get it. You’ll only receive what you sign up for.

If you don’t mind two emails per day, for example, you can continue to receive GearCrave– and receive StyleCrave emails separately. It’s all up to you. Make sense?

yep that sounds like a plan. where is the girl of the week going?

Excellent question (I know someone would ask!!). Girl of the week will become even more frequent on StyleCrave– three times per week. On GearCrave, we’ll have a weekly column, “the gadget or the girl”, where readers vote on who the better choice.

In short- Girl of the Week will move to StyleCrave. Fret not, we’ll continue to involve pretty ladies here on GearCrave as well!

Do you really get enough readership to dilute your brand in this fashion? Comment counts suggest not.

    Step carefully, Crave.

    “Step carefully, Crave.”

This decision wasn’t made on a whim, we planned it quite carefully for many months. Personally, I don’t see it as a dilution of our message, as this change was made to allow for better targeting of our content focus. Stick around for a while, give it a few weeks to sink in and then feel free to send any thoughts my way from the contact form.
