Knowing how much we love ThreadLess and Timbuk2 here at GearCrave, you could imagine how pumped we were when we heard a rumor that the two might be collaborating. Sure enough, ThreadLess and Timbuk2 have joined forces and are releasing three limited edition messenger bags with classic ThreadLess prints. You read that right– the greatest name in t-shirts and the best in messenger bags are making three short run bags together. Continue reading, GearCravers, to learn about these limited edition bags, the matching shirts from ThreadLess and how you can win one of the three bags above for free from ThreadLess, Timbuk2 and GearCrave.
About Timbuk2 Messenger Bags
While Threadless is widely known by most of you, Timbuk2 may be a little less recognizable. This San Francisco-based messenger bag company has a cult following in urban cyclist circles, yet their appeal is quickly crossing over to the pedestrian world. Their bags are stylish, durable, waterproof and most importantly– customizable. On the Timbuk2 website, you can create your own personal bag by selecting its style, fabrics, colors, reflective tags and more. It is from this “created by you” philosophy that makes a collaboration with ThreadLess such a brilliant idea.
There are 200 of each bag available in this limited edition run. The lovely people at Timbuk2 reached out to GearCrave this week to offer one of each as a giveaway to GearCrave readers. Continue reading to learn about each bag in the ThreadLess/Timbuk2 line, plus how three lucky readers can win one for free from GearCrave, ThreadLess and Timbuk2.
The GlueKit “True Love” Messenger Bag and T-shirt

New England-based design team GlueKit pieced together their design for True Love by using “a lot of standard Gluekit themes and tokens: cuteness, rainbows, mock striped pins, hand type banners, adhesive strips, drips, hearts, and brick walls.” Their fresh, poppy designs look as good on the Timbuk2 bag as they do on a screenprinted t-shirt. If you’re using the True Love messenger bag for its intended purpose, you’ll be noticed by every car on the road. If you’re using it solely for style, you can expect the same effect from passers by. Check out the product page for the messenger bag, then match it with the t-shirt from Threadless.

The Julia Heglund “Believe It” Messenger Bag and T-shirt

Julia Sonmi Heglund has a style of her own, taking inspiration from childhood curiosity, mythic iconography and a profound sense of detail. Take a close look at her work for the “Believe It” bag and t-shirt, you’ll see that her artwork tells quite a story on its own. With that, it was easy for the ThreadLess community to vote this one to print, and just as easy for Threadless and Timbuk2 to select it for their first line of messenger bags. Check this one out on the Timbuk2 product page, as well as the matching t-shirt.
Buy: $130
The Robert Hardgrave Gossamer Messenger Bag and T-shirt

Robert Hardgrave’s work takes a deep inspiration from disease and recovery, as they “reflect ideas of reincarnation and the richness of life beyond death.” The “Gossamer” design is full of these elements, appearing as a symbolic collage of the designer’s life experience. Check out the detail of this design at ThreadLess, and more about this messenger bag on the Timbuk2 product page.

My favorite is True Love. It’s a feel good design :) *Thanks* for the giveaway!
Friday, June 20, 2008 3:11PM
Out of all of the Timbuk2 bags, the coffee colored classic messenger in point fabric is my favorite. Why? Because it’s stylish, yet something I can still bring in to the office on any workday without being questioned.
As far as the three bags here, my favorite is the “believe it” bag. Something about the design and color combination just strikes me..
Friday, June 20, 2008 3:46PM
My favorite is True Love. Gluekit is doing some amazing work right now and this is just another great example. Nice work on the giveaway!
Friday, June 20, 2008 4:05PM
i love the Laptop Messenger Point Fabric because it’s so stylish and what is better than a stylish laptop bag? i love the subtle design and brown is a sweet sweet color. my laptop desperately needs a better method of transportation than being sandwiched between my textbooks!
thanks gearcrave!

Ahh Threadless sure does get around. I really wish that they had picked mp(3) or one of their more simple, witty designs for one of these. I do have a soft spot for funny shirts. :-)
But I think that I’d choose Believe It out of the three. Since that’s my favorite tee out of the bunch.

Gluekit’s True love with it’s 80s stylin
Saturday, June 21, 2008 3:08AM
My favorite is easily Julia Heglund’s “Believe It”design. It reminds me of the backpack I had in 3rd grade when I did a project on the religious practices of the Native Americans.
It also reminds me of Journey. Hold onto that feeeeeliiiiing.
Saturday, June 21, 2008 11:00AM

Saturday, June 21, 2008 12:12PM
First, I can honestly say that I have never wanted to win a GearCrave giveaway as desperately as I do this one.
I love the ‘Believe It’ design because it reminds me of when I was a kid, plus the styling is similar to Where the Wild Things Are meets Poltergeist. I also grew up in the southwest and miss this design theme.
PLUS my old Ben Sherman ‘pedestrian purse’ ain’t cutting it any more, haha.
Thanks for sharing!

The GlueKit “True Love” Messenger Bag and T-shirt
I like that one because it reminds me of the eighties. Me being an eighties baby and all.
Saturday, June 21, 2008 12:34PM
The Robert Hardgrave Gossamer Messenger Bag is my fave. I love the bold colors and the unique design. And Timbuk2 bags are built to last forever.
Saturday, June 21, 2008 12:49PM
Julia Heglund’s “Believe It” is the best of the lot for me. Shame that only these three designs from threadless are used for the collaboration.
Saturday, June 21, 2008 12:58PM
Dude, if you look at
“The GlueKit “True Love” Messenger Bag and T-shirt”,
it’s a trip. Going with this will make everyone look twice.
Art is awesome too, it not often you see something like that on a shirt and a messenger bag
Saturday, June 21, 2008 1:32PM
My favorite, although a hard decision, is “True Love”. I am a sucker for CMYK being used as separate colors. That bright 80s look is awesome.
Saturday, June 21, 2008 1:33PM
Gotta go with the GlueKit “True Love” Messenger Bag and T-shirt. Thinking it will make an awesome gift to my sister in the bay area that loves black and vibrant colors. It’s way cool.
Saturday, June 21, 2008 2:00PM
The GlueKit “True Love” Messenger Bag and T-shirt

The Laptop Messenger bag is my numero uno favorite! I think I could really impress a lot of my friends toting this one around. All octogenarians should have one!
Saturday, June 21, 2008 4:05PM
The Julia Heglund “Believe It” Messenger Bag is deffently my fav, the design is just so detailed and different from the rest.
Saturday, June 21, 2008 4:32PM
The “True Love” bag is my favorite. I simply love the quirkiness of the design and the colors are nice and bright. Love it
Saturday, June 21, 2008 4:39PM
The true love is definitely my favorite. The bright colors stand out so much against the black bag and the grey arms on there. It’s pretty much perfect.
Saturday, June 21, 2008 5:10PM
The “Believe It” messenger bag is my favorite, too. The design is beautiful, and the colors somehow seem to fit the whole messenger bag idea perfectly.
I know that that doesn’t make any sense. I’ll try again:
Bag pretty.
Yes. Yes it is.
Saturday, June 21, 2008 8:30PM
awsome! the bricks kind of remind me of the snes for some odd reason. i love the contrast too
Saturday, June 21, 2008 8:48PM
I love the Julia Heglund “Believe It” Messenger Bag because the graphics are refreshingly bold and the color combination (blue and orange on a white background) is my favorite. It’s cutting-edge, clean, and striking.
Saturday, June 21, 2008 9:01PM
Wow those are pretty dang cool. My current bag is from American Eagle and it couldn’t hold my calc book. I’m definitely in the market for a new bag for college.
Saturday, June 21, 2008 10:11PM
Classic Messenger Bag Looks AWESOME!
Black/Black/Black
I’d love to carry this around. Sure would get comments on it.
Saturday, June 21, 2008 10:43PM
I’m liking the GlueKit. Really good use of the whole bag as a canvas!
Sunday, June 22, 2008 12:10AM
“Believe It” because of it’s contrast. Looks phenomenal as a bag.
Sunday, June 22, 2008 12:21AM
the The Julia Heglund “Believe It” Messenger Bag and T-shirt is so cool!
The design has just the right amount of each color.
Sunday, June 22, 2008 12:35PM
I pick the GlueKit “True Love” Messenger Bag. The design is interesting and I think it shows the most detail. I would love to have it so I don’t have to wear a bookbag to work, I look like such a dork.
Sunday, June 22, 2008 5:58PM
The Hemp/PET fabric messenger bag is my favorite. Great giveaway; thanks!
Sunday, June 22, 2008 6:43PM
I pick Sonmi’s “Believe It” Messenger Bag.
I just personally love Sonmi’s work both her independent work and her works on t-shirts made from Threadless.
Sunday, June 22, 2008 10:57PM
I like the “Believe it bag” because of the detail and overall coolness.
Monday, June 23, 2008 7:34AM
Want! I love Hardgrave’s gossamer one, it reminds me of a cross between the old spin and paint machines and those oil stickers that were ‘oh so cool’ in the mid eighties (where you could press and different colours would swirl).
Though they all rawk around the clawk.
Monday, June 23, 2008 1:18PM
Love “Believe it”. The way the white design crumbles to bits on the back of the bag is lovely. I also like that the bag is predominantly black and white but has this crazy design that doesn’t take away from the b&w.
Monday, June 23, 2008 2:09PM
The Julia Heglund “Believe It” Messenger Bag and T-shirt … The design for this bag matches perfectly with the skin of my ipod!!
Monday, June 23, 2008 5:04PM
The Glue Kit True Love one is really nice, I like that one the best.
Monday, June 23, 2008 6:01PM
I like the gluekit design. It’s got bananas on it!
Monday, June 23, 2008 11:28PM
Robert Hardgrave’s definitely. Partially because I couldn’t decide and picked at random… partially because I like that color yellow the shirt comes on
Tuesday, June 24, 2008 2:52AM
I like all of these bags for one simple reason, they help to disguise the fact that they contain a laptop and that is SO important these days when carrying an expensive piece of gadgetry around our increasingly dangerous streets. I love ‘em ALL!
Tuesday, June 24, 2008 3:49AM
I like all of the bags for their stylish nature and their vivid colors. The design is superb along with the quality
Tuesday, June 24, 2008 1:16PM
My favorite is the “Believe It” bag. I like the colors on it as well as the design itself
Tuesday, June 24, 2008 3:06PM
I’d like to get the Classic Messenger x-Pac Fabric because it looks really roomy and my husband really needs a bag for all his stuff when we go places so I don’t have to carry it for him. He’s also a classic kind of guy who I think is allergic to color.

Wednesday, June 25, 2008 2:33PM
Wow… I’m having trouble choosing between the Believe It design and the Gossamer design. I think I prefer the Gossamer, because I like the theme of disease/recovery, life/death, etc. And that t-shirt color looks great as well!
Wednesday, June 25, 2008 4:25PM
Cool contest! I love Timbuk2 bags…they take a lickin’ and keep on erm…holding stuff. *gryn* And Threadless just kicks serious ass and takes names. It was hard to choose between the “Believe It” and “Gossamer” design, but in the end, “Gossamer” won out in my mind. The themes of disease and recovery, life after death, etc really resonate with me (especially after losing two family members in the past two months) and the design reflects the themes in a lush, organic way. I’ve always had a fascination with detailed anatomy illustrations as well, and these are nifty, and could almost be a stylized sea life drawing! (:
Wednesday, June 25, 2008 4:27PM
liking the color combo of the “Glue Kit” design
Wednesday, June 25, 2008 4:36PM
After looking at them, I think True Love is the only one that really works best on a messenger bag… Looks like it’s got coverage down to the bottom, which is important in a messenger bag design, since the bottom of the bag is the most visible part when you’re actually using a messenger bag while riding a bicycle.
Believe It looks like the head of the figure that ties the design together gets cut off by the bag fold… For a t-shirt this is my favorite design, but I don’t feel like it works as well when it’s cut in half like that…
Wednesday, June 25, 2008 4:38PM
Julia Heglund’s design (”Believe It”), hands down. Not only do you wear the shirt, the shirt wears you. I also like all the white space on the bag.
Wednesday, June 25, 2008 6:06PM
I definitely like the The Robert Hardgrave Gossamer bag, great design as well as theme. Definitely think it works on the bag and the pattern draws you in for a closer look.
Wednesday, June 25, 2008 8:08PM
I’m just not a big fan of electric pink these days, so I prefer Julia Heglund’s design (”Believe It”). However, the design is printed backward - the top should be printed on the flap side of the bag, even if that means the design is upside down when carried. The top of the design carries more meaning than the bottom, and people seeing the bottom when the bag is being carried are missing out.
Wednesday, June 25, 2008 9:49PM
I was immediately drawn to the 3rd bag, Hardgrave’s Gossamer. Art and colors inspired by the human body are always something I’ve liked and felt connected to :)
Thursday, June 26, 2008 7:58AM
I am most partial to Hardgrave’s Gossamer bag. An intriguing, intricate design on what is otherwise function is form bag. Plus, the design reminds me of an abstract coral reef scene.
Thursday, June 26, 2008 8:42AM
Heglund’s is my favourite for sure (although they’re all pretty spectacular). I just love the way Heglund’s design invokes to of my *favourite* things: comic book fantasy & mythology. Awesome! Plus, it has the the word “believe” in it. Come on, what can be more uplifting?! :)
Thursday, June 26, 2008 10:13AM
“Believe It” is awesome. Since it does tell a story and there is a lot to the illustration, there would be something new to notice everyday. I don’t think it would grow old.
Thursday, June 26, 2008 11:16AM
Any of the laptop messenger bags would be awesome!!!
Thanks for the giveaway.
Thursday, June 26, 2008 6:37PM
I’m a kindergarten teacher and the “True Love” messenger bag is my favorite. I love the primary colors and it reminds me of a pac-man video game.
Friday, June 27, 2008 11:55PM
The Robert Hardgrave Gossamer Messenger Bag is the bag that I think is so amazing. I love that it is colorful, but at the same time, it is abstract. It allows someone to look at in in a different way than what another person would look at it. The design along with the colors really make the picture memorable.
Sunday, June 29, 2008 2:10PM
The Robert Hardgrave Gossamer Messenger Bag is my favorite. I need a larger bag, that is why I am entering this contest. The bag I picked is my favorite bag but, personally I like a simpler design to complement my wild clothing and socks. I would wear this one, but I wouldn’t chose it over some of the other TImbuktu designs.
Monday, June 30, 2008 1:19PM
I would choose the believe it bag because the artwork is amazing, and it’s a great motto to be supporting everyday!
Wednesday, July 2, 2008 1:23AM
Definitely going to have to go with the “Believe It” bag. It just has an amazing design, color scheme, and that “hip” look… It’s unique and just looks awesome…
Wednesday, July 2, 2008 10:01AM
I liked the The GlueKit “True Love” Messenger Bag. I dig the 80’s themed bag and the flashy colors. Looks like Q-Bert on a bag.
Saturday, July 5, 2008 11:25AM
am i blind, or have the winners for this not been announced yet? just wanna be sure that i didn’t miss it. fingers still crossed! :)
Wednesday, July 16, 2008 3:12PM
This is a great marriage - Timbuk2 and Threadless. All three designs look fantastic on the messenger bags but I really dig the Robert Hardgrave Gossamer bag. The patterns are so unique that they seem to change each time you take them in. Thanks for the chance to win!
Thursday, August 14, 2008 8:08PM
The Robert Hardgrave Gossamer Messenger Bag is the post potent of the designs to me. It reminds me of how I would invision the film negative of a thin slice of a chaotic life held to the light.
Saturday, August 23, 2008 11:31AM
The Julia Heglund “Believe It” messenger bag loks awesome with its vibrante colors. I think all these limited edition bags look great. I can’t wait to get one for my son
