GearCrave Giveaway: Obaku Harmony Watches!

We love our watches at GearCrave. Naturally, we were quite excited when watchmaker Obaku reached out to us to introduce their new line of watches. Obaku’s Harmony watches are inspired by early Asian philosophy and designed by the Danish design duo of Lau Liengård Ruge and Christian Mikkelsen. The Harmony line ranges from classic, minimal pieces to complex, multi-emotion watches with well balanced functionality. Shown above are three of GearCrave’s favorites, the V108G, V100G and V102G respectively. Continue reading, GearCravers, to learn more about Obaku Harmony watches. Also, Obaku is giving away one of each of the above watches to GearCrave readers who get involved in this very post…
Obaku’s Harmony collection includes 14 watches ranging from the V100G, centered above, to the V121G. Obaku’s focus is on simplicity, and even in their most complex timepieces they’ve achieved a simple, uncomplicated design. The name Obaku itself comes from a branch of traditional Zen Buddhism, which helps describe the designers vision for simple, basic living.
The V112G, shown here, is a statement of minimalism on its own. Aside from the philosophical inspiration of the designers, this watch takes much from classic watch designs, especially the Movado Museum watch. This one takes that simple, bold look a step further from the Movado by removing any shiny band elements and keeps its basic simplicity.
Check out the Obaku Harmony website to learn more about the watches, the philosophy behind them, and where you can buy them in the US. And stay tuned, we’ll be publishing an interview from the Obaku designers on Thursday!

I like the watch on the far right the most, I think it’s the V102G. My favorite watch so far would have to be this one I had in fourth grade. The wristband was filled with some liquid and glittery stuff that you could push around inside of it that would distract me all day during school. It was pretty sweet. Eventually the liquid came out somehow, probably from me squeezing it too much, so I couldn’t wear it anymore.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 3:46PM
I love the V108G. Not only is it functional (Day of the week? Hello!) but it’s also an awesome looking watch.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 3:47PM
Almost forgot…my favorite watch ever was my red Snoopy watch that had Woodstock as the second hand.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 3:47PM
That V108G is one sexy looking watch. I’d be the king of the company with that.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 3:48PM
I love the center watch and would so love to win it for my husband for a father’s day gift (which I would say came from you all). The quality looks amazing and I’m sure would look good with anything my husband decided to wear when sporting such a beauty. It caught my eye in the newsletter sent to my inbox.
Please count me in…maybe I’ll get lucky with this one (I’m counting on it anyways…or at least dreaming that I will).
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 3:49PM
I really like the silver version of the V102G model… keep up the good work gearcrave!
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 3:51PM
god****.. all three are hhhhot.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 3:52PM
wow. this totally reminds me of the modern japanese styles from the early 1990’s
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 3:55PM
forgot this part: I’ll have to go with the V100G as my fav. i’ve not owned many watches but my fav has to be my swatch skin.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 4:02PM
I love the design of the V100G watch. Truly excellent. The favorite watch I have ever owned is an old Baume et Mercier Riviera.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 4:03PM
V108G no doubt! Especially the one with red pins.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 4:10PM
I love the V102G the most but wow, each of them are nice in different respects. Anyways, my favorite watch was some digital casio watch I had when I was in 3rd grade. I wore it all the time just so I could get that ridiculous watch tan. I even had a second one I would wear on the other wrist so I could have two of those tans. Wow, have I changed.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 4:13PM
The v102G is gorgeous. My favorite watch was the burger king watch I wore as a kid, since then I haven’t been a watch wearer but I’d reconsider if I had one as nice as those.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 4:35PM
My favorite is V108G. I have yet to find a real favorite of mine as an adult. Once oh so in the ancient times, I had a Spiderman watch with popped open a cover (spring loaded) to reveal time in digital and play Spiderman theme music. I so loved it, and am sure I would get mucho $$$ on ebay now for it. Only it has been lost in the stream of time… *sigh* So maybe I’ll find a favorite in the Obaku Harmony
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 4:51PM
The V108G is a sharp watch for a sharp man. Sweet! My favorite watch was a small green one I had as a Boy Scout in 6th grade. I wore it when we went camping up at different lakes in the Sierras. That was a great watch…too bad it didn’t live very long (as a 6th grader, nothing of mine lasted very long).
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 5:10PM
The V100G is sleek and classy. I used to have a titanium Fossil watch a few years ago that I absolutely loved for the lightness of it.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 5:17PM
the V100G is definitely the bestest looking of the bunch. I used to have an old school casio g-shock that i loved very much..
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 5:22PM
V100G! my fav watch is a really old patek philippe from my dad and probably his dad’s dad.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 5:47PM
V102G has to be my favorite, it’s got a sheik modern look to it that would probably go well with almost any style.
My favorite watch that I currently own would have to be my tokyobay structure in all black. It looks great , except the face fell off when I was playing ultimate Frisbee with it on T_T.(not exactly a genius move on my part)
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 5:50PM
My favorite is the one on the right (v102G), it looks like it fits so well that I wish it were a chair that I could lounge in. My favorite watch growing up was an LL Bean field watch because it had a lifetime warranty and they would replace it every time I smashed it… which was often.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 5:56PM
V100G is definitely my favorite of the three. My favorite watch is an old diver’s watch that I’ve had for about 10 years. It was the first watch I bought myself when I was about 11, and it still keeps great time. It’s lasted through all kinds of punishment and I’ve replaced the batteries either 1 or 0 times, not a bad investment for an 11 year old!
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 6:19PM
i like the v108g the best because it i like how the face extends a bit into the wrist band. i also never had a square watch before and I’d to see one on me. my favorite watch by far was one i had through out all of elementary school it was a watch with lightning bolts on the face and it and the reason i loved it was because my friend had a watch with some waves on it and together we were the elements. all we needed was a fire watch. the other reason i liked my watch was because it was so reliable. i lasted for an incredibly long time and kept me from being dependent on people who don’t want to give you the time.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 7:11PM
I like the V100g the best. Very classy, a hint of color and functional, too. Probably my favorite watch was my Timex Datalink that I could use as a wearable PDA by “beaming” information to it from my computer screen. I’d had the older style models with the tiny keyboards, but you had to redo everything to change any of the data. But I could wear both of them all day in the ocean while surfing. Having the information with me all the time was great.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 7:13PM
But not at same time… ;)
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 7:27PM
The V100G is insane. The unassuming red accents bring it to the next level.
My favourite watch is the one I’m wearing right now! It’s the Icon Watch by & Design which I got from MOMA. It looks like an old 8-bit watch icon, and never fails to attract a compliment.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 7:33PM
I really like the V112G. Simple, elegant, and yet strangely futuristic.
The favorite watch I’ve had is one I got from Wal-Mart when I was about 12. It was silverish and looked as cheap as it was but it kept good time and was not too clunky — and it matched with everything.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 8:04PM
It’s all about the V108G, it gives women the sense that this man is confident, a winner. It is also has a functional, besides just being awesome looking.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 8:08PM
I really think the V100G looks great. It’s sleak, elegant, and sporty at the same time! The best watch I’ve ever owned was a cheap metal dress watch from Target that broke after a couple months.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 8:11PM
I like the middle one, the V100G. It looks casual but it also looks like you could wear it to an important business meeting. My favorite watch was a watch I had in middle school that when the alarm would go off it sounded like a rooster, on top of the fact that it was a remote control. So when they made us watch one of those novels that were made into movies, we had alot of fun in class.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 8:15PM
All of the watches are amazing, but I could definitely see myself wearing the middle one, the V100G. It would go great with my black and red leather jacket.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 8:19PM
The rightmost watch, V102G, is my favorite, but all look fantastic.
My favorite watch is one that I’ve never actually worn - it’s a fake Rolex that I bought by a harbor in NYC. It’s a bit ugly and only partially functional, but my $15 was worth the sense of, ah, history that owning a genuine fake NYC Rolex brings.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 8:25PM
I’m having trouble choosing between the V100G and the V108G. Both are absolutely stunning, but final choice depends upon which one fits my wrist better (need case sizes).
My favorite watch has to be my grandfather’s vintage Accutron Spaceview. As a child, he used to put the watch close to my ear and let me listen to it hum. The Spaceview used a revolutionary (at the time) tuning fork movement that was a real departure from the * tick tick * movements of the watches that came before it. This fact held me fascinated.
I’ve since inherited the watch and it proudly sits in my collection today.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 8:25PM
The V100G is AWESOME! Very cool-looking with a bit of retro-modern flair. I like how sleek, spy-like it looks. My favourite watch is my Hellboy watch - it shows the classic Hellboy character doing his thing against flames. Because everything is better with flames.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 8:27PM
I love the V108G!!!
My fave watch would be my first Swatch watch that my dad gave to me :)
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 8:28PM
I lurve the V100G. It’s so cool and would look great on my husband! I’ve only ever had one watch so, de facto, it’s my favourite. Nonetheless, it looks great in any outfit.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 8:52PM
I love the V102G!!!I wish i can have them!Thank you for nice giveaway!
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 10:11PM
That V112G is freaking gorgeous.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 11:20PM
The V100G is incredible. I had this swiss army watch that i accidentally left outside all winter (i was 10) and when i found it in the spring, it wasn’t broken. and it still had the correct time.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 11:52PM
V100G is the piece I love the most.
Now about my favorite watch …it was my first watch. I remember that I was 7 years old, and I’ve earned some money for Christmas. Of course I didn’t had enough for that electronic watch, but my father helped me with the rest of the money. At that time I liked the watch because it had a sleek design, and the most important part that he had an electronic agenda, where I was able to store telephone numbers.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 11:58PM
I like the V112G, so simple and nice.
A few years ago I’ve just bought a new watch, simple like the V112G, not to expensive, but it looked expensive instead and I was very proud. Later that day I was to play football with a few friends, and of course I keep the watch on my hand to show off. And the inevitable happened …in a moment I felt down and I’ve destroyed the watch, just at a few hours after I’ve purchased it.
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 11:58PM
V100G is the one I like the most. My favorite watch had an orange rubber band that smelled like vanilla.
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 12:32AM
The 100 and the 102 are PIMP! The 100 gives me the feel for the need for speed, the 102 is like my bulova watch, straight to the point, a watch that catches the eye, and it would look good on my wrist while making the tasty drinks that I do at the local restuarant I work at.
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 5:06AM
The V112G is my kind of watch. Stark simple.
I remember having one of those LCD watches that displayed hands instead of numbers. It came in a funky color combo: green strap + purple shell.
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 5:54AM
I like the two with the circular design, specifically the v112g. Its all a watch should be and no more: tells time. On the plus side, they are light, look great, stylish, and easy to read. I’d sure like to have one!
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 6:16AM
The V100G is loaded with sophistication. The grain detail on the band is topnotch. The long hands extend to the the edge of the dial is a feature that I have yet to see on another watch. The face with a very useful chronograph dials and red accents take this piece to another level. All in a thin case, its the total package.
My favorite watch of all time was a calculator watch. Definately geek chic when I was growing up.
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 7:01AM
The V100G makes me want to touch myself, and I’m not afraid to admit it.
My favorite watch is my grandfather’s old Movado, although it needs quite a bit of work.
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 7:16AM
I love the V100G . Its clean, easy to read, and the additional dial are a plus. Its very tech and manly :)
Surprisingly my favorite watch was a cheap $10 watch from a gas station. It was very simple, all black with white dials. Only problem is it broke after only a few weeks .
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 7:22AM
Ooooh, sex-ay! I really like the V108G. One of my favorite watches I’ve owned was a Diesel timepiece, but parts of the leather band kept breaking every 6 months or so. The last time I ordered a replacement band and put it on the watch, I dropped the watch and broke the glass face. =(
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 7:59AM
These are some of the nicest watches I’ve seen in a while. I really like the V108G.
My favorite watch was my steel and gold(tone) Fossil watch. It was cool. It was from the ‘blue’ series so it had a metallic blue face and was rated to 300 meters underwater. So, since it was rated for water I wore it tubing one day. Lets just say its not rated for smashing against a rock underwater.
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 9:02AM
The v100g is sweet! My fav watch is my seiko arctura, wear it every day.
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 9:04AM
I really like the V100GCBRB. My favorite watch had to be an old Fossil. I’d still be wearing it had it survived snowboarding. One of those things, never really thought the watch would be so … brittle.
I really like the simple theme of these watches, they have very nice lines.
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 9:33AM
Top left is gorgeous…the boxes really set it off
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 9:34AM
I like the V102G the best of those 3. My own favorite watch is a wittnauer that my parents gave me when I graduated from college - my name, the date, and my school were engraved on the back.
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 11:42AM
I like the looks of the V108G best. It has different look then most watches.
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 12:18PM

i love the v102g…
my fave watch ever…my calculator watch ih ad as a kid
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 1:06PM
I love their whole design philosophy! They’re like a more sophisticated version of the NIXON watches with their use of materials and clean look…
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 1:22PM
I have a Timex Indiglo on right now, but I’ll take one of those if you’ll give it to meee.
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 1:24PM
I have to say my favorite watch of the Obaku watches would be the v102g.
My favorite watch that I’ve ever owned would be my Projects Architect Past, Present, and Future watch. Its so unique and it’s a great conversation piece. (or my walkie talkie watch that I had a few years back…)
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 1:35PM
My fav is the V112G. I love the black minimalist design.
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 2:02PM
V102G definitely. Never was much of a watch wearer after my Nixon broke, still been on the lookout for the right one for me, would be glad to give this one a shot!
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 3:12PM
V102G is pretty nice, deff beats my old swiss army watch. This would be a nice replacement!
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 3:22PM
The V112G is absolutely beautiful, and I like that it’s a buddhist.
Granted there is something to be said for simplicity, but I’ll always hold my Casio Calculator watch dearest to my heart. Not only could I ace every math test in school, but I thought I was a comic genius everytime I typed “55378008″ into it. (Boobless - ha, genius!)
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 4:22PM
I like the watch in the center. It is simple and has the two dials that I love so much. My favorite watch ever was my seiko watch i wear now. I got it as a gift and it also has the same dials. It has lasted me for over 8 years but if I could afford one of these I would wear it all the time.
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 8:39PM
I love the V108G, that square design is so cool.
Haha, my favorite watch was a cheap plastic burger king “Spongebob Squarepants” watch that I wore allll the time in ninth grade. After a few months, the timing was off by a few minutes, and I had to reset it every day at 3, then 2, then 1, then 10 in the morning, and so on. :/ Gave me a really bad tanline too.
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 10:31PM
V112 is the best looking one, minimalist, pure functionality without bells and whistles. V100 looks best of 3 but with different band (it’s round).
Picking up a watch is like making a statement, it has to fit in with the outfit that has to fit with the particular moment of time you’re measuring. The watches with too many gizmos try to break the continuous flow of time, time is fluid, it takes whatever space (all space), that’s why round is the shape that is best for watches.
Other shapes try to divide time, they’re like leap years. Time and universe are infinite that’s why time measuring is relative, the only thing we can do is to measure a part of it, we cannot measure it all, that’s why we had so many calendars, relative to knowledge and human mind perception of time.
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 10:41PM
I like the middle one, the V100G-I believe that’s the “technical” name.
Years ago, I owned a vintage Mickey Mouse watch. Best watch ever. It was stolen from my locker at school one day and my heart is still broken.
Thursday, May 29, 2008 12:08AM
The V108G is my choice. It’s beyond sophisticated and would look smashing with my suit.
My favorite watch is an old prop pocket watch that I used in the first show I ever did. The sucker never actually worked, but to this day I keep it as a good luck charm when ever I’m in a show
Thursday, May 29, 2008 6:55AM
I prefer the V100G of those three, sure beats using my cell phone as a watch. But, is the watch back lit!? :-)
Thursday, May 29, 2008 9:17AM
These watches really impress me. The simplicity of the V112G is quite nice. I just started exploring Zen Buddhism and one of these would be a nice accompaniment. My favorite watch was one I had in my youth, a classic Mickey Mouse Two-Hander.
Thursday, May 29, 2008 11:16AM
I absolutely love the V112G. It’s so chic and simple. I have been looking for a long time now for an amazing watch to give as a present to my boyfriend and I think i found it! :) Thanks guys.
Thursday, May 29, 2008 2:15PM
I love the V108G the one on the left. It’s got a nice clean look and the stitching on the band add to it’s nice clean lines.
My favorite watch was my old playskool watch that had a light in it, I used to think I was the man at the playground growing up and loved showing it off to the girls.
Thursday, May 29, 2008 2:37PM
I love the v100g. the hint of red, on the otherwise black body looks amazing! so far my favorite watch was my casio ediface, it was an analog watch with a digital display as well. Very nice cross of the two styles.
Friday, May 30, 2008 4:46AM
My favorite 3 are the V111L, the V120L, and the V105L. My favorite watch I’ve owned was the first watch I was given as a child - a Micky Mouse watch:)
Friday, May 30, 2008 8:55AM
The V108G is a gorgeous timepiece. Although it’s a tough choice that is definitely my favorite of the three listed above.
My personal favorite watch was also my first. At a young age in the mid 80’s I was given a Shark Freestyle watch for a birthday present from my parents. It had a black square face with a digital lcd display that showed the date and moon phase along with the time. The stopwatch feature supplied hours of fun. This watch also had a fluorescent green and neon purple velcro band. When I paired that watch with some checkered and splatter painted Airwalk sneakers, I was pretty close to invincible.
Friday, May 30, 2008 10:20AM
The V108G and the V102g are both beautiful watches… and I would go to great lengths (tinyurl.com/3lazsk) to pass either down to future generations.
My favorite watch was my ironman digital with the big red buttons. It could pace runs, keep track of multiple splits, was waterproof and had a few alarm settings… but all my fat ass ever did with it was try to get the stop watch to stop on 1.00 exactly. There just wasn’t a lot going on in middle school for this guy.
Friday, May 30, 2008 10:29AM
What great watch designs!! Nice to continue to see fresh items come to the marketplace and these are on the leading edge of the curve!!
I vote for #102G, but would really like to vote for all three!
Phil
Friday, May 30, 2008 2:01PM
Gotta say that V108G is pretty badass. My favorite watch has to be the Movado my brother got me for my wedding a few years back, however, I think it’s about time for something less girly.
Friday, May 30, 2008 11:40PM
I love the middle watch. I would say my fav watch I ever owned but I’ve never had a fav watch. I’ve only had ugly ones.

I love the V112G. So Zen it will be right on time but I won’t care because I shall be lost in its timeless quality
Saturday, May 31, 2008 7:19AM
OOoooo Pretty!! I like the V108G! I don’t have a favorite watch…..but I could use a free father’s day present :-P
Saturday, May 31, 2008 3:46PM
They all look great. It would be hard to pick a favorite. I would use the V108G for work, the V100G for sport and the V102 G for dressy occasions. my favorite watch was a Charlie the Tuna watch that I got as a kid by sending in 2 Starkist Tuna labels and $1.95 for shipping.
Saturday, May 31, 2008 6:37PM
i love how the v108g looks, my favorite watch is actually a seiko analog watch with a full face digital display, world time functions and a stainless steel finish.
Saturday, May 31, 2008 9:11PM
V100G is nice.
Sunday, June 1, 2008 1:23AM
Ah, my favorites would have to be the V112 and the V102. I just love the minimalism of both of them. The style is just amazing. I would definately take the V112 over any of them any day.
My favorite watch was probably this cheap digital yellow watch I got when I was 7. I’m not quite sure why it meant so much to me. My grandpa gave it to me whenever I went back to Taiwan to visit, and I wore that watch everday until the strap broke when I was 10. I even tried to screw on another strap later when I was 12 but it wasn’t the same. Since then, I’ve never worn another watch on my wrist.
Sunday, June 1, 2008 3:03AM
the right one, V102G, is my favourite - absolutely stylish - but I can’t decide 100% - the V100G is very sexy aswell … hmmm. I had one of these very slim square design watches years ago - unfortunatelly I lost it *sniff*
Sunday, June 1, 2008 8:11AM
The V108G is calling my name. That is one sweet watch. My favorite watch is a Kenneth Cole one that I still wear all the time.

I love the V102G. Looks classy, yet looks like you can wear it with anything. Very simple also.
I have a Bulova watch that I still have, runs on kinetic energy. Just have to shake it.
Friday, June 20, 2008 7:55AM
V100G is my favorite. Why - I am an instrument engineer, I like clear concise data in simple form. Good engineering function leads to great design, QED.
I saw this watch first in a fancy (read very expensive) watch magazine (QP). Out of the whole mag. this was the one for me.
My favorite watch is always the one I’m wearing, currently a $23 timex !! but its battered and scratched and needs replacing.
If I cant win one, where can I buy one!
