People think The X-Files was the most paranoid show in TV history, but it pales in comparison to The Prisoner. This is undoubtedly television’s finest hour, with only a few notable exceptions in the 17-episode run. How could a program so short-lived be the greatest thing ever broadcast? You’ll have to watch it and marvel. Patrick McGoohan is a secret agent who resigns from the game after a furious confrontation with his superiors. He races home, pulls out his passport and gets ready to fade away for good. Too bad he never makes it. McGoohan wakes up on an island controlled by unknown forces who are determined to extract information in any number of ingenious ways. And all that’s just in the opening credits! Hands down the best thing to hit the small screen…ever.
