Its a big release day in Hollywood– the champion of the 2008 Academy Awards has hit the virtual store shelves. “No Country for Old Men”, a four time Oscar Winner, is available to the public today. This film is a must-see, whether you saw it in theaters or not. “Country” wasn’t alone on this Super Tuesday, as the Blu Ray format saw many popular releases, and films like “Hitman” and “Dan in Real Life” became available to consumer media. GearCrave’s got the details, continue reading below!
No Country for Old Men
With few exceptions, the Coen brothers are gifted with the Midas touch of filmmaking. “No Country for Old Men” is the latest in a series of masterworks that includes, in this writers opinion, the nearly perfect films “Raising Arizona”, “Fargo”, “The Big Lebowski”, and “O Brother Where Art Thou?” “No Country” perfects a style the Coen’s have tried before but had yet to perfect. Where the Coen Brothers came close with films like “Blood Simple” and “The Man Who Wasn’t There”, they’ve created a cinematic masterpiece in the same vein with “No Country for Old Men”. Its likely that you already know the story, the players, and the setting from the Oscar hype. If not, you owe it to yourself to watch the trailer. Either way, “No Country for Old Men” is a must own for your film collection.

Hitman
In contrast to a film like “No Country for Old Men”, “Hitman” is best described by the word “gratuitous” and the phrase “based on a video game”. If over-the-top battle scenes and sleuthy, fictional badasses is your bread and butter, here’s a film for you. Hitman tells the story of an organization of assassins plucked as orphaned children and trained to kill. Our hero, bald-headed, bar-coded and aptly named “47″, slips between targets with silence and brutal precision. That is, until he’s set up for a fall on a faked assassination– and becomes the target himself. Taking the horror, the loathing out of violence and making it just plain brainless fun, Hitman is a great film for its category. Watch the trailer.

Dan in Real Life
As far as we’re concerned, Steve Carell can keep on playing the same type of character. Typecast or not, we love him- and we love his films. In “Dan in Real Life”, Carell plays a quirky, doomed-to-failure writer and father careening toward a mid-life crisis. In his trademark way, he makes his own failure fun and comical to the audience, making light of life’s little difficulties. After his single father character finally meets a woman he can open up to, she turns out to be the girlfriend of his brainless brother. Hilarity ensues. Excuse me if I use the term “heartwarming” here on GearCrave, but I promise never to do it again after this. The film is funny and heartwarming. Perfect for a date with your lady… Here’s the trailer.
