Where our international friends have tea, we have our rich, black coffee. We do it in true American spirit– bold and fresh with the occasional kick of sugar and cream. We salute our caffeine addiction with a handful of dollar bills at Starbucks– yet other societies celebrate their mornings and afternoons quite differently: with a cup of tea. The Japanese, in fact, celebrate caffeine with a much higher resolve. The Japanese phrase “zencha ichimi” translates to English as “tea and Zen are one”.
