The Background

The Green

Defined by developer PN Hoffman as “Fine Urban Living,” the Alta embodies everything that the U.S. Green Building Council envisioned when the LEED system was created. Every room in the community uses low-VOC paints, reducing the noxious fumes so many indoor environments create. What’s that do? How about a reduction in allergies and athsma and cleaner, healthier lungs. It’s kinda important. The green roof - a virtual garden on top of urbanism at its best - will control the amount of storm water drainage, reduce the heat island effect and recycle water for use throughout the building. The building also made little use of regular wood products, instead choosing rapidly renewable resources like bamboo and cork.

The Stuff

The interiors at the Alta are an exercise in modernism: clean, open spaces with simple design that really let you manipulate the room any way you desire. Exposed ceilings give off the urban loft feel and most units have panoramic views of Washington’s landscape - perfect for those nights you don’t feel like traversing the town.
