Fixed Magazine

fixed mag

Gears are for pussies.  While you’re shifting up three gears from standing start to top speed, I’m already 50 feet ahead of you.  One turn of the crank on my bike, and you’re in my dust.  Why?  I’ve only got one speed– fast.  This Fixed Fenomenon is growing by every turn of that single-speed crank.  It is cycling at its purest, it is performance at its best, and counter car culture at its most defiant.  If you want to ride, you absolutely must try it fixed.

Fixed is a new magazine, launched just this past week, for fixed-gear enthusiasts by fixed-gear enthusiasts and serves as both an insider’s playground and an outsider’s peek into the culture from a global perspective. The magazine will be available at select stores, but you can download the first issue free of charge here.

Pro Module 600 Electric Skateboard

Thursday, May 29, 2008 11:00AM - By Mike Payne

pro module electric skateboard

This one surprised us, just a bit. This skateboard is quick to hit 19mph, but without a single kick/push on your part. The Pro Module 600 Electric Skateboard is powered by pure electricity, plus an urge to push your extreme sport tendencies to an, um, extreme.  Just stand on the Pro Module 600 and use the wireless, hand-held control to power your way through the kick flips, olleys, arials and more on your way from place to place.  Even skating purists can’t balk at this one, as skating could now be an electric-powered commuter solution in todays busy urban world.  Hop aboard, GearCravers, just make sure you’ve got plenty of charge and even more attitude.

Bushnell Yardage Pro Golf Pinseeker 1500 Laser Rangefinder

Monday, May 26, 2008 8:00AM - By Mike Payne

Bushnell yardage pro golf pinseeker 1500 laser rangefinder

The top pro golfers can rely on their caddies for sage advice on the course. Us amateurs, hackers and slicers don’t have six figures laying around to toss at a full-time professional caddy. We can, however, pick up a good laser rangefinder to help us plot a course through our favorite fairways. If you want one of the best, the Bushnell Yardage Pro Golf Pinseeker 1500 Laser Rangefinder has the edge on high end rangefinders. The Yardage Pro can range up to 1500 yards, is accurate to within one yard, and also provides 7x view magnification for close-up views of the green. The Yardage Pro’s software can ignore foreground brush, trees and other obstacles that throw off lower end rangefinders. This model also calculates slope, helping you decide where to put that shot on your quest to the cup. So Tiger Woods can keep his caddy, you’ve got tricks in your golf bag with the Bushnell Yardage Pro.

Problade 100 Speed Skate: Foot Lightning!

Thursday, May 15, 2008 8:00AM - By Mike Payne

problade 100 speed skate

Okay, we’re going to need you to be a little more active than usual in reading this post. Take your right hand off the mouse and lift it up. We’re not kidding. Make a fist and push your thumb all the way out, like you’re making a thumbs up– but point your thumb to your left. Now close one eye and block out the wheels on one of the blades above with that thumb.

On its own, that shoe looks pretty bad ass, doesn’t it! Below your thumb are the four wheels of the Problade 100 speed skate. These things are like greased lightning, no exaggeration. The roller blades you had growing up are nothing compared to these. Don’t try playing street hockey with them, the puck won’t be able to keep up with you.   In short, these things are f#$king fast. Be careful when strapping them to your feet…

REI Quarter Dome T3 Tent

Thursday, May 8, 2008 8:00AM - By Mike Payne

rei quarter dome t3 tent

Camping should always be a good time.  You should always have plenty of beer, plenty of raw meet to grill, plenty of bug spray– and a damn good tent.  There’s nothing like ending a day in the woods coming back to a bug-infested, leaky tent that is barely supporting yourself, let alone you and your guest.  If its about time that you upgrade your own camping hardware, we recommend the good people at REI.  Their Quarter Dome T3 tent, shown above, is part of their ultralight range.  This means you can put this puppy on your back during a hike and won’t feel a burden.  While it is rated as a three person tent, consider this one a honeymooner.  You and your special lady will fit in this one just fine, with plenty of room for tent shaking fun.  The best part about the REI Quarter Dome?  You’ll have this one pitched and primed before your camping neighbors get theirs out of the bag…

Calloway Golf I-Mix

Tuesday, May 6, 2008 1:41PM - By Mike Payne

calloway golf i-mix

The “modular” buzz word always gets our gearlust going… When it comes to golf, the only thing “modular” about our game is which emotion we wish to attach to our game on the fairway. Not anymore, says Calloway Golf. Their I-Mix line of drivers is a modular club system which allows the golfer to exchange clubheads and shafts from a wide variety of choices. The idea behind the I-Mix line is the tinkering, adjusting and personalizing that pros do to their clubs to get the right performance. With this line, golfers can have a few different shafts and clubheads and mix-and-match to fit the environment. While much of golf’s recent developments in technology have been solely design/marketing related, this is a genuine step forward for pro and amateur golfers a like. (a hundred bucks says you slice it into the woods anyway!) [TheBachelorGuy]
