Monday, September 8, 2008 11:30AM - By Mike Payne

Looking to stock your bar with a bit of sensibility?  Modmix Organic Cocktail Mixers are friendly to the body and the environment, produced with eco-friendly processes and healthy fruits and veggies.  Of course, if you drink 11 citrus margaritas, that health bonus will offset by the hangover the next morning.  In moderation, ModMix is quite a tasty treat.  Choose between Citrus Margarita, French Martini, Lavender Lemon Drop, Pomegranate Cosmopolitan, Mojito and Wasabi Bloody Mary.  The big bonus for all you health fans– ModMix is 100% free of high fructose corn syrup, they use only pure, raw sugar.  Yum.  [thanks coolhunting]

Sweet Sipping Rum Rhythms: Trinidad’s 10 Cane Rum

Thursday, September 4, 2008 9:01AM - By Mike Payne

Might as well make it official: GearCrave’s favorite export of Trinidad next to Carnival is 10 Cane Rum.  We’ve been working on a bottle over the long weekend, testing it with different mixers and pulling back a few shots straight.  After carefully tossing it around in our mouth, we can give no less than a glowing review.  Granted, we should explain that we’re not a pro when it comes to Rum.  Beyond the top shelf regulars, we haven’t reached far beyond the staples of light and dark rums alike.  To the scent, 10 Cane Rum is warm, sweet and fruity.  To the taste, its flavors of sugar, cinnamon and spice are strong– yet surprisingly drinkable.  Of all the tests we did, neat, on the rocks and over cola, one stood out.  We got ourselves a can of Blue Sky organic cola (no corn syrup, only real sugar) and mixed it with 10 Cane.  The result was a refreshing cola taste with strong essence of cinnamon and very little liquor bite.  While we might be a bit biased, next time you see a bottle of 10 Cane, you must try this for yourself…

Maestro Dobel Diamond Tequila

Tuesday, August 26, 2008 2:50PM - By Mike Payne

You may have seen this one covered around the blogosphere– and with good reason.  Maestro Dobel Diamond Tequila is one of the finest tequilas we’ve ever tasted, competing with craft liquors and cocktails that never make it out of the VIP section.  Why are we a bit late to cover this?  Quite frankly– were were drunk.  The good people at Maestro Dobel were kind enough to send GearCrave a complimentary bottle of their Diamond Tequila, a bottle which we have enjoyed quite thoroughly.  This blended Diamond tequila includes aged Reposado, Anejo and Extra Anejo, coming together for a crisp, clear and complex flavor experience.  We tried it neat, on the rocks and in a few too many margaritas (tastes excellent with Grand Marnier) with fresh lime.  We’re no stranger to good tequila, we enjoy our Patron Silver over ice.  After getting to know Maestro Dobel, however, we’ve found ourselves a new top shelf favorite…

Moet & Chandon Rose Imperial Champagne

Monday, June 16, 2008 1:20PM - By Mike Payne

moet & chandon rose

Moet is a firm believer in good presentation.  Nothing sells a premier champagne quite like a hand-crafted, shiny black box with a gold lock and key.  Moet & Chandon Rose Imperial Champagne comes in a pink leather-lined box with gold detailing.  This 18th Century champagne is the toast of those who can afford to truly splurge, while the rest of us are okay with our third glass of Korbel (burp!).  When the champagne is long gone, why not give this box to your special lady to protect her under-the-bed secrets? The Cubist Cocktail Set

Thursday, May 29, 2008 12:00PM - By Mike Payne

cubist cocktail glasses

Let’s face it– cosmo, martini and margarita glasses fill their role, but they certainly aren’t functional. Show me a drinker that hasn’t broken a martini glass and I’ll show you a, uh, not sure where I was going with that. The point I’m trying to make is that these classic cocktails have a new, functional home that captures their angular spirit. The Cubist Cocktial Set includes four traditionally shaped glasses with cubed bases that are not only functional but cool as well. You’re not going to spill or break a glass in these unless you’ve had far too much. And at GearCrave, we’re all about moderation here *buuurp*. So these are right up our alley.

trav-l-bar travel bar

We’ve found the official GearCrave office briefcase.  This serious looking leatherish case is very 1980s accountant, but it packs a real punch within its folds.  The Trav-l-bar B983 Travel Bar Set is a deluxe bar set inside a classic brief case.  It includes four shot glasses, a shot measuring cup, a bottle/can opener, a fine serving tray and slots for three bottles of your choice.  Grab your favorite whisky, vodka and wine and head to your favorite destination.  Be that the beach, the park, the rooftop or the living room.  [via Dethroner]
