While the gamer world is abuzz with all things Liberty City, there is plenty of media release news for the rest of us. Two great films were released today to consumer media. When Miami Vice first hit television screens back in the 80s, it re-wrote the book on televised action. Shot in a cinematic style, with every color and musical note carefully considered in the early days, this was more like a one-hour movie rather than a cornball TV production. Looking at this show today, it holds up surprisingly well–and in hindsight Miami Vice was much more hip than you might remember. The show featured cameos by Phil Collins, Sheena Easton, Bruce Willis, Frank Zappa, Ted Nugent, too many others to name. The music? Duran Duran, Andy Taylor, The Damned, Devo, Roxy Music, plus some wretched 80s cheese from Phil Collins, Gladys Knight and others. This boxed set has all five seasons uncut, retaining the music from the original–no omissions or deletions near as we can tell. One of the best shows on television, especially for its era.

The Dirty Harry Ultimate Collection is a high-def Blu-Ray collection with all five of the classic Eastwood movies–timeless lovestories about a man and his gun. After several weeks of Oscar-worthy releases, the release schedule from Hollywood has quieted down a bit. The main gem on this week’s list? The Focus Features Spotlight of David Lynch’s Lost Highway.
