Evernote: Remember Everything (Now in Public Beta!)

Monday, June 30, 2008 8:00PM - By Mike Payne

evernote

Update - Evernote has completed its private Beta and has opened up its software to public use for the first time. You no longer need an invite to sign up for Evernote, you can join today– invite or not. Visit Evernote.com to sign up!

Would you believe us if we told you there was a way to never forget a picture, a business contact, a web page or even a hand written note? Our friends at Evernote are making this a real possibility. Evernote provides its users with a way to capture, save and index a piece of information in almost any environment. Using the web, your mobile phone or even a digital camera, Evernote users can capture a piece of data and store it forever in their personal Evernote account.

The phrase “piece of data” sounds a little ugly, so we’ll romanticize this just a bit. That brainy beauty from the bar who passed you her number on a cocktail napkin? Snap a picture of it with your cell phone, Evernote will store it, automatically recognize her name and number and index them in your account. The next morning you can search her by name and Evernote will pull up the photo. We recommend waiting at least two days to call though ;)

Continue reading to learn more about this amazing new application, even try it yourself– Evernote is giving away 100 free Beta invites to GearCrave readers. Leave a comment we will send one your way! EDIT: Several people have left comments without using an email address in the contact information, we cannot send you an invite without an email address…:)

Ready the stage lighting, the fog machine and make room in the living room, for today Harmonix announced Rock Band 2: The Opening Act. This upgrade includes both a software and hardware facelift, with new songs and in-game functionality promising an even more awesome rock and roll experience. Rock Band’s instruments look even more realistic (and are noteably quieter), the new Fender Strat features some serious-looking wood grain detail. Also, Rock Band has opened itself up to third party hardware, allowing for other manufacturers to make gear for this great game. Rock Band 1 owners don’t need to worry, the new version is backward compatible and will play your original disk. More to come on this, GearCravers. We’ll keep you posted! [via gizmodo]

Monday, June 30, 2008 12:47PM - By Mike Payne

freestyle usa shark attack

Save for the occasional friendship and slap bracelet, 1980s wrist-wear was defined by three big names: Casio, Swatch and FreeStyle. Since that decade of dayglo, FreeStyle watches have maintained a cult-like adoration from skaters, surfers and a whole range of counter-culture fashionistas. What started over 20 years ago is reaching its first resurgence: the classic Freestyle Shark watch is once again a hot ticket item. Our friends at FreeStyle USA reached out to GearCrave to get involved in a giveaway. As fans of the classic Shark watch, we happily obliged. Continue reading, GearCravers, to learn about the new 80s Shark watch and the full line of FreeStyle watches available to GearCrave readers.

Mosley Tribes Castellano Sunglasses in Noir

Monday, June 30, 2008 11:00AM - By Mike Payne

mosley tribes castellano grey lens

While inspired by classic aviators, these sunglasses take a thick, geometric approach to eyewear design. The Mosley Tribes Castellano Sunglasses are the right kind of chunky, a form fitted kind of fantastic for your face.  Where most aviator-inspired eyewear is shiny and reflective, these are subtle and cool.  Besides, that’s what we aspire to be as GearCravers: subtle and cool to the furthest degree.

EDUN Brando Military Shirt

Monday, June 30, 2008 10:00AM - By Mike Payne

brando military shirt

On cooler summer nights when you want to blend casual and stylish, its nice to have a button-down with a little weather-based functionality.  The EDUN Brando Military Shirt has sleeve ties that button to make these long-sleeves short in no time.  Functionality aside, the Brando just looks damn good, with its mini double striping and cool gray color.  EDUN mentions that this piece is made in Madagascar from 100% cotton.  We’re curious though, is Madagascar a beacon for textile quality, or a fun-loving, celeb-voiced cartoon?

Best of Last Week: GearCrave’s Fresh New Look and Feel

Monday, June 30, 2008 9:00AM - By Mike Payne

Last week, we launched GearCrave’s new design, a layout we had been working on for quite some time.  We asked you what you thought, and the response was a resounding “yes!”.  We’ve got a few more tweaks to work out, we’ve got some older images to fix and some other tasks ahead.  We’re happy about this design, and look forward to building a better, stronger GearCrave in the future.  Want to help?  Tell your friends about us!  If your friends are anywhere near as cool as you are, we’d be honored to have ‘em around.  Send ‘em an email, shoot ‘em an IM, welcome them to GearCrave.  Until then, continue reading below for GearCrave’s favorite articles from last week.

TouchTable MultiPlay Roulette Table

Monday, June 30, 2008 8:00AM - By Mike Payne

touchtable multiplay roulette

Its only a matter of time until new technologies are used for gambling and porn.  While the latter hasn’t been talked about yet (and we can only imagine where that is going), gambling has already found a place in the multi-touch environment.  The TouchTable Multiplay Roulette Table is a multi-touch system allowing a group of players to have a new interactive involvement in the game of Roulette.  Sure, you could just grab your chips and toss them on the board, but now you can do it on a touch screen.  We’re a little concerned about this design, however– where are you going to set your drinks?  [via BornRich]

Weekend Getaway: Acapulco, Mexico

Friday, June 27, 2008 2:11PM - By Mike Payne

acapulco mexico

Its Friday, folks. If your weekend plans are not yet solid, why not tell the boss you’ll be out on Monday and hop a last minute flight to Mexico? Hell, you deserve Tuesday off as well. For this trip, we suggest Acapulco, the gem of the southern Mexican state of Guerrero. Acapulco is just a few hundred miles away from the southernmost tip of Mexico, where mountain meets sea in a dramatic contrast. For the uninitiated, Acapulco is quite similar to some Mediterranean hotspots, with climbing mountain villas and a warm, vivid blue bay. The beaches are unreal, and the local culture and cuisine is vibrant and spicy. You can fly direct to Acapulco from several U.S. cities, or from a connecting flight within Mexico. Want to see more? Check out more pictures after the jump.

More on Acapulco at Concierge.com.
