Most motorcycles today fall into three unofficial categories of design, Cruiser, Racer or Retro. The 2008 Thruxton by Triumph is a beautiful mixture of the last two categories. Inspired by the Spartan café racers of the 1960s, this meticulously designed bike evokes images of a Steve McQueen era where not everyone looked like Jim Morrison or The Fab Four wearing Sgt. Pepper uniforms. An era transitioning from the minimal 50s aesthetic to a more Euro/Japanese inspired high design. Part of Triumph’s “Modern Classics” range of bikes, the Thruxton features an 865cc, air-cooled, twin cylinder power plant, the most powerful of Triumph’s twin cylinder line-up, has a peak power output of 69bhp delivered at 7400rpm and peak torque of 52ft.lbf arrives at 5800rpm.

The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain, but when it comes to staying dry in the big city, strong winds are what should be discussed. Rainmakers, Totes Umbrellas has designed the first umbrella to combat the near gail force winds found whipping through most metropolitan concrete corridors. Wind resistant up to 70mph and designed to automatically spin to align itself and face it’s foe. The Senz Umbrella is the proud winner of the 2007 RedDot Design Award. Now if we can only convince the George Costanzas of the world that umbrellas are in fact not “free at all coffee shops…”

Samsung wants to make printing sexy, and the one pound, 17 pages-per-minute ML 1630 laser printer has definitely made it to the swimsuit competition. The space-saving, sleek design puts most printers in its class to shame. It even boasts “silent” operation (compared to other printers, naturally). Form and function are finally holding hands in the world of laser printers.

Aquavision is taking TV to new extremes with a 57-inch waterproof television for the shower/bath, and the outlandish TV/towel rack combo. For both models, the television screen looks like a mirror when the unit is turned off. This should be quite exciting for anyone so addicted to the tube that they can’t fold the towels without checking out who’s getting sent back to Hell on Reaper or what exotic disease-of-the-week is festering in a halpless patient on House. Too bad the writer’s strike is on, eh? You’ll just have to soak in the tub and watch Jim “Mad Money” Cramer rant about the stock exchange.

ISO50 presets the London ‘68 shirt in all its analog retro glory. The fact that it’s screen-printed on an American Apparel shirt and is 100% sweatshop-free makes this even cooler. ISO50 has a whole series of great, retro-looking prints, shirts, album covers, you name it. The style is unmistakable once you’ve seen enough of these old-school goodies.

I cannot stress to you more the importance of “backing up.” I don’t mean as you pull out of your garage or what you tell a stripper to do in Vegas. I am talking about getting into the life saving habit of backing up your computer’s hard drive as often as you dream about poking holes in your boss(yes, at least once a day…killer). I recently lost my family, friends and girlfriend to a horrible serial killer named “Kernel Panic”, he erased their memory and I may never fully recover from the thought of ever seeing their beautifully photo-shopped faces ever again. Please, let their memory(or lack there of) be a lesson to you and rush out and buy a back up hard drive today.
Take this beautifully designed drive from Western Digital. The “WD My Passport Essential” is perfect for pretty much anyone. With 320 gigs of capacity. USB 2.0 connection and a super slim housing that slides right into your shirt pocket. Don’t put it there though…nerd. This drive will surely save your life when Murphy, gremlins, Kernel Panic, Major Pain, General Nuisance or any number of amnesia inducing suspects strike again. At $200, aren’t your loved ones worth it? Don’t answer that.

The MacBag was inspired by the ultra-thin (on many fronts-hah!) MacBook Air, which the PR hype claims can fit into a manilla envelope. Enter the MacBag, which is exactly the same size and shape even with the same goofy string tie-off design with the little ovals. Studio Lueng added the shoulder strap and water resistant design to the mix. Nice, but some of us early adopter skeptics are holding out for MacBook Air Mark II. We’ll contemplate the MacBag THEN.

It looks vaguely like some kind of control panel on the Death Star, but the Twinkle ultra-mod wall art/light fixture is definitely eye-grabbing. There are 140 bulbs and comes in your choice of white enamel or stainless steel. operates in a variety of modes–always on, twinkling lights, or flash mode. This comes with spare lights, so you get a total of more than 800 teeny bulbs in all! Available in 240-volt or 110-volt models.

Ricky Gervais, the genius behind The Office, followed up that triumph with the equally funny Extras, the tale of a wanna-be actor and his battle to get something better than a “blink-and-you-missed-me” role. There are plenty of star appearances, including Kate Winslet, David Bowie, Samuel L. Jackson, and Patrick Stewart to name a few. The collection includes the 90-minute series finale which hasn’t been available on DVD until now. If you loved The Office, this is right up your alley with the same kind of uncomfortable, “watch them self destruct in painfully obvious ways” humor. Brilliant.

Last week, GearCrave posted about the Pinel & Pinel “Vizio” media trunk– to much adoration by our fellow Cravers. Not only is this concept of “media trunk” just plain cool, Pinel & Pinel don’t skimp on the luxuries with their “Vizio”. This portable media experience includes a 28 inch LCD by Beovision, a DVD/CD player and the sonic experience that only the people from Bang and Olufsen could provide. So for you high rollers, movie execs, heirs and can’t-leave-it-at-home media geeks, you’ve found your muse. Check out our original post on the Vizio media trunk. Or more here.
