Linux Turns 15

Happy birthday, Linux kernel! The open source operating system is now 15 years old and has plenty to be proud of. From its early days as a wicked-nerdy OS, inaccessible to the layman, Linux is slowly transforming into something used by all, finding popularity in mobile phones and netbooks. Linux has even managed to incite the wrath of Microsoft, with the software giant talking of patent infringement. Indeed, the OS really shot up after its Bar Mitzvah. And it’s even jumped the gun on driving (you can find it in GPS units, again to Microsoft’s dismay). What’s next? Nights of binge drinking followed by stern lectures from Richard Stallman and Linus Torvalds? Stay good, Linux, stay good. [via Gizmodo]
