More Cash Coming for Flexible Displays

Good news for people who dream of wearing their computers on their sleeves: Arizona State University’s Flexible Display Center, which is developing bendable, super thin and energy-efficient screens, will get $50 million in funding from the U.S. Army. This is on top of the nearly $44 million the Army has invested since 2004. Wired has a thorough explanation of the technology, but in short, the screens could eventually put LCD and OLED to shame. The Army is interested in using them to provide soldiers in the field with blueprints, maps and other tactical information, and Consumer electronics companies have built their own prototypes. The technology could possibly reach the market in a few years, experts say. [Wired]
