Sad News for Consumer Tech: Porn Industry Won’t Pioneer 3D

Like it or not, the adult film industry has a historically strong influence over future media formats. It helped bury Betamax in favor of VHS and boosted Blu-ray by giving HD-DVD the cold shoulder. But while 3D video turned heads at this year’s CES, porno makers said they likely won’t be ahead of the curve with that advancement. It’s partly a logistical issue, as porn is often shot with hand-held cameras while 3D requires two stationary cameras trained on the same image. It’s also more expensive.
