Spend about $100 on a good set. Headphones provide audiophile sound without waking the neighbors and trhey do whatnospeakers outside of a carpet-walled room can do: Let you hear he mucis before it bounces off the walls and re-mixes itself in the process. Music is mixed by engineers using headphones, so that's the way it should be listened to. They allow you to hear the music the way it's truly intended to be heard.
